1.

Sketch the waveform of the current flowing through a linear capacitor for 0 < t < 4sec if
(a) a constant voltage v = 10 volts is applied to the capacitor and the capacitance C varies
with time as shown below, where C1 = 2000pF and C2 = 1000pF.
(b) the capacitor has a constant capacitance C = 1000pF and the applied voltage v varies
with time as shown below, where Vm = 10 volts.

Calculate and plot the variation of the current (for 0 < t < 4sec) in a linear inductor having a
constant inductance L = 1 mH if the voltage v of Prob. 1(b) is applied across the inductor,
with the magnetic flux = 0 at t = 0. What is the energy stored in the inductor at t = 4sec?

3.

Calculate and sketch the waveform of the voltage v across a linear capacitor having a
constant capacitance C = 0.01F if the capacitor is initially uncharged and the waveform of
the current i flowing through the capacitor for a period of 4sec is as given below.

The given circuit has a d-c voltage source V = 5V connected to the parallel combination of a
time-varying resistor R and a time-varying capacitor C, the nature of variations of R and C
with time being as given below. Obtain expressions for the current i in the two time intervals
0 < t < T/2 and T/2 < t < T, and hence find the value of T that would result in a constant value
of the current i.
