METHODOLOGY

i ) RESEARCH AND IDENTIFICATION

In the first week research session on the importance of overcurrent protection was involved
before listing all the types of relays and their characteristic. The research were going through
by website and some notes from our previous class session. There were four relays that had
found. [ Instantaneous Overcurrent Relay, Definite Time Overcurrent Relay,Inverse Time
Overcurrent Really and Inverse-Definite Minimum Time ( IDMT ) Overcurrent Relay
] All of them were listed and were investigate by looking out the details and specification of
all. Identification of the existing types of protection system was take place by studying and
verifying the advantages and disadvantages of each type. After all the type of relay that has to
be used for the line protection was chosen based on our research.

ii) CONSTRUCT THE PROCEDURE

The drawing of the setup circuit was sketch before the experiment run. There were many
switches and sources that has to be differentiate. After the sketching, the procedure was
constructed from set up the circuit until do the conclusion. The procedure of the experiment
shown as below.

Procedure :
1) Set up an experiment based on the diagram in figure A.
2) Make sure all the supplies are switched off and switch test is in setting mode.
3) Set the Plug Setting with value of 0.5
4) Adjust the knob of line current starting with 3A.
5) Set the TMS at 1.0 value
6) Turn on insulator, MCCB, AC supply switch, DC voltage source & relay supply.
7) Set the switch test into test mode.
8) Record the relay setting current and start the stopwatch.
9) Record operating time when a cluck sound from disc is produced.
10) Set the switch Test into setting mode.
11) Turn off AC supply and relay supply.
12) Repeat the experiment with different values of line currents, TMS and plug setting based
on the table.
13) Interpret and analysis the data.
14) Do the discussion of the comparison between the results of simulation and experiment.
15) Make a conclusion

iii) SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENT

The simulation was completely run by using Matlab Software. A circuit of the system was
built and all the data was plotted based on the table. A simulation is needed so that able to
compare with the result from the experiment. After all the experiment was conducted and all
the results ware be taken and recorded on the table. The experiment was being repeated
according to the desired graph .The error was recognized and will be discussed on the
Discussion. Step by step the calculations was done by using the results taken from the
experiment. After that, the discussion of the comparison between both result simulation and
experiment respectively were discussed and conclusion of whole project was made.
