Ez Capture for DC-3

Preface
Thank you for purchasing the Ez Capture for DC-3. This User Manual explains how to use Ez Capture
for DC-3. Always keep this user manual at hand.

This software is used to capture the eye images by connecting with TOPCON DC-3.
This software has following futures.
Capture, save and delete images by connecting with TOPCON DC-3.
Enhance contrast while viewing images.
Print images while capturing images.

This manual outlines the DC-3 Capture software including operating. Always keep this user manual at
hand.

Precautions
Please read this User Manual carefully before using this software.

This User Manual is made on an assumption that the user already has knowledge of the personal
computer (PC) and Microsoft Windows operating systems. This User Manual does not describe details
on how to handle common operation procedures of the PC and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Topcon Corporation is not responsible for the results of incorrect handling of the PC and Windows
operating systems.

Specifications of this software and descriptions of the User Manual are subject to change without prior

Ez Capture for DC-3


Log in Windows with a user ID of administrator authority.

Ez Capture for DC-3 requires

administrator authority. When you use Windows Vista/7, we strongly recommend that set

Getting started

To activate Ez Capture, click on the "Start" on the Windows desktop, click "All Programs(P), " and
then click "Topcon"-"EzCapture" on the Menu. Or just double-click its program icon on the desktop
to start Ez Capture.

Startup Screen

Ez Capture is started and the following main screen is displayed. The startup screen may be
customized by setting. Refer to "4.1 Setup of Ez Capture". In the factory setting, the Slit, View
and Exit icons are displayed in portrait orientation.

In case all the icons are displayed in horizontally long, the following startup screen appears:

Operation Icon
Starts the photography module registered in Setup.
(The Setup procedure is described in Chapter 4.
In the example on the left the displayed name is set as Slit.)
Capture
Starts the Viewer registered in Setup.
The folder displayed at the time of start is "Folder the image was
previously saved".
View

Specifies the folder where the image is to be saved.


Folder

Exits Ez Capture.
Exit

Ends Windows.
Shutdown

Configuration Setting

Click [Start Menu]-[TOPCON Ez Capture]-[Configuration], and you can set up Ez Capture.

Setup Ez Capture

Starts the setup screen of Ez Capture.

Extended Capture Module

Starts the setup screen for the extention capture module.

Print

Starts the print setup screen.

Exit

Ends the setup start screen.

Configuraation can not

start simultaneously while Ez Capture is starting. Please start

Configraution after exiting Ez Capture.

4.1 Setup of Ez Capture


If [Setup Ez Capture] is selected in the setup start screen, the next setup screen appears.

Icons of Ez Capture

Checkbox group:
Sets whether or not to display the operation icon that can be
displayed on the startup screen. Click the checkbox of a target
operation icon and mark the checkbox.
The items will displayed in the order of "Capture", "View",
"Folder", "Exit" and "Shut down" in the items you selected.
Full path of extended capture library for Capture column:
Specifies the extended capture module. Use the [Browse]
button to activate the Open the file dialog. In the dialog, set the
full path of the extended capture module. .
Text column:
Sets the display name of the extended capture module.

Sets the following options. Click the checkbox of a desired


option and mark the checkbox.
Open capture window when starting Ez Capture.
Enter ID before opening capture window.
Enter ID after capturing.
Do not close capture windows after saving.
Options

Look of Ez Capture

Folder Setup

The features Enter ID before opening capture window and Enter


ID after capturing are not available simultaneously. An ID assumed
when the ID input function is not used is defaulted (TOPCON, DC-3).
Turning On the Do not close capture windows after saving.
function starts up the next capture window immediately after the
images are saved. Turning off this function terminates the capture
window for which the images are saved.
Selects the orientation (Vertically long/Horizontally long) of the Ez
Capture startup screen.
Folder to save captured images column:
Selects the folder where the image is to be saved. Sets the folder
by using the Refer to folder dialog that appears when the
[Browse] button is pressed.
Checkbox group :
Select the folder setup from the followings.
Make ID folder in specified folder.
Make Date folder in specified folder.
Do not change folder when saving.
Turning On the Do not change folder when saving. function saves
images in the Folder to save captured images that has been set.
Turning Off this function starts the Refer to folder dialog when
images are saved to let the user select a folder to save images.

File name

List :
This list includes items that may be used for file names.
List :
This list includes items used for file names. The items are used
for file names in order from top of the list.
To add an item, select one from List and press the [Add ->]
button to add it to List .
To delete an item, select one from List and press the [<Delete] button to delete it from List .
[Up][Down] button: When the [Up]/[Down] button is clicked,
you can move a selected item up/down in List .
Prefix, Digits of sequence number, Separator column:
Specify prefixes, digits of sequence number, and separators
respectively as items used for file names.

Enter a prefix in a maximum of 12 alphanumeric characters.


Note that the signs / : * ? < > | cannot be used.

File format

Setting example:
When items used for file names are "ID, name, date, time, procedure,
R/L, angle of coverage", digits of sequence number "3", separators"_"
and the file is saved in the file format jpg, the file name (example) is
as follows:
000-00-0001_ TOPCON_20090830_151014_Color_L_45_001.jpg
Select a file format from among the four file formats (JPEG, TIFF,
PNG, BMP). Click the radio button to select one.
For JPEG, quality setting is available. Select either High quality
or Standard quality.

4.2 Setup of Extended Capture module


When [Extended Capture Module] is selected in the setup start screen, the setup screen for the
extended capture module starts up.

select images with pushing the Ctrl key, selective state is inverted.

4.3 Print Setup


When you select [Print] from the Setup Start screen, the following setup screen appears.
When you perform the print setting for the first time, specifies the setting name from "New" before
starting the setting. The setting will be completed after setting the template file and the printer name.

Photography Startup

When you start Ez Capture, the Main Screen is displayed. Click the [Capture] button, and the
capture window will start up. Refer to "6.2 Detail of Photography Function (DC-3 Capture)" for the
details on the photography method.
The ID input screen may appear before the capture window is started or photography is completed.
Setting of timing for starting the ID input screen is made in [Options] under "4.1 Setup of Ez
Capture".

DC-3 Capture

6.1. Outlines of DC-3 Capture


DC-3 Capture is a software product to capture images using TOPCON DC-3 Camera.

DC-3 Capture may fail to operate normally when a USB device such as a USB

memory stick or a printer is active. Power off any USB device before using DC-3
Capture.

Tool Bar
Use it for the basic operation of DC-3 Capture.
In case the window width is not wide enough to display all icons, click

at the lower right

of the toolbar. The icons that is not displayed in the tool bar are displayed. Or Rearrange the
window size or the tool bar layout in order to display all the icons.

Photography result list


The number of images captured and the number of images reserved to be saved are displayed by
photography filter.

Frame rate
The real-time frame rate is displayed while a live video is being displayed or recorded.

Right-clicking on the title bar of the DC-3 Capture window displays the following pop-up menu.

Capture Setup
Displays a dialog box for setting the details of photography session(Chapter 7.1 DC-3 Camera
Setup).
Version information
Displays the version information of DC-3 Capture and DC-3 firmware version.

6.2. Detail of photography Function(DC-3 Capture)


General functions:
The following shows the icons for general operations and gives details of each function.

The dialog box of the capture session list is displayed. The patient
ID, last name, first name, and database number can be browsed.
Clicking on a session in the list switches between target sessions.
Right-clicking on a session in the list displays a menu including
Close Session without saving.

Selecting this option discards all

the photographed images and closes the current session.

*The images (or movie) not marked for saving are discarded
following the save operation.

Printing

Prints the image displayed in the Photography window.

makes a reservation to save them.

The following shows an

In the left image, the bottom two thumbnail images are marked for
saving with SAVE appearing in the lower left area of the image.
Clicking on the [Saving reservation reversal] icon displays SAVE in
the uppermost image only as shown in the image on the right.

6.3. Real-time setting


You can change the camera settings like ISO sensitivity by using the Real-time setting combo box.
The settings changed with the the Real-time setting combo box are only temporary and are not saved.

6.4. Photography window function


Display of live videos
When the live display setting is ON, Live is displayed in the Still mode, Movie mode and Multiple
mode. In case the live display setting is OFF, the photography standby display appears.

Selecting a thumbnail image on the photographed image displays the selected image in the
photography window. Clicking on the menu icon [Previous] or [Next] displays the iamge that is
immediately preceding or following the image in the photography window.

Scaling of entire image


Rotating the mouse wheel while an image is in the photography window scales the entire image
up/down. In case the size of the image exceeds the window size, panning the image displays the
desired portion of the image in the photography window.

Enlargement of the cursor-positioned portion


Clicking the mouse wheel displays a rectangle to give an enlarged display of the portion where a
mouse cursor is positioned in the photography window. Clicking the mouse wheel a second time
hides the rectangle.

6.5. Thumbnail List


The Thumbnail List shows the captured images (or movies). When one of the thumbnails is selected,
the selected image (or the starting image of a movie) appears in the photography window. The movie
file has the indication Movie in the lower right hand corner of the thumbnail image. An image (or a
movie) reserved for saving has the indication SAVE in the lower left hand corner of the thumbnail
image.

6.6. Information window


Displays the information for the currently selected session. Details of the display are shown below.

Displays information on the left/right eye in green while the DC-3 is
involved in USB communications.
Not Connected
Displays in red to indicate that the DC-3 is disconnected and has has is
dropped from USB communications.

Displays in blue to indicate that Live display is under way.
Recording.
Displays in pink to indicate that recording under way.
Capturing
Displays in pink to indicate that a still image is being captured.
Auto Power Off
Displays in red to indicate that the automatic power to the DC-3 has been
turned off.

Notice:

If the automatic power to the DC-3 has been turned off, press the trigger button of the slit

lamp to turn the automatic power to the DC-3 on.

6.7. Photography result list


The number of exposures per photography mode and the total number of images for all modes are
displayed. The Total Shot column displays the number of exposures for each photography mode.
The Save column displays the number of images reserved for saving out of the total photographed
images (or movies). Clicking on the list provides the following data in the photographed image list:

Selecting Capture Setup displays the following dialog:

The figure above shows the default value for installation.


(1) Capture Setting
From the drop-down list, select a photography setting that has been saved. Clicking on the
[Delete Setting] button deletes the currently selected setting.
(2) Still Mode
Performs setting on Still photography.

Capture is a setting item related to still image

photography. Live is a setting item related to Live display. The following section gives details
for each setting item:

The following describes various functions of the main buttons:

HALOGEN/XE/LED/AWB/OTWB as defaults cannot be deleted.

Valid only when OTWB as a default is selected. Acquires the currently valid
W.Balance through photography.

Default

Defaults to the default values of HALOGEN/XE/LED/AWB/OTWB.

OK

Saves the setting and exits the dialog box.

Cancel

Exits the dialog box without saving the setting.

Apply

Saves the setting without exiting the dialog box.

(6) Button
Performs setting of DC-3 main unit. The following shows details on each setting item:

(7) Trimming

The following describes trimming settings.

Specify how many percent of the area will be trimmed from the
image on the right/left and up/low.

7.2

Customizing Menu Bar and Tool Bar

The tool bar can be customized according to the users preference.


To customize the tool bar:
1. Open the menu by right-clicking on the tool bar.
2. Click Customize.

7.2.1 Selecting the tool bar to be displayed


The tool bars to be displayed can be selected from the right-click menu that is displayed by rightclicking on the menu bar and the tool bar. The following tool bars are provided as default:

Display.
CaptureSetting.
EditImage.

Interpolation process for scaling the images to be displayed.


The camera setting window .
[Contrast adjustment] and [Undo]..

7.2.2 Customize dialog box


Customize dialog box is displayed by clicking [Customize] from the right-click menu of the menu bar or
the tool bar. With this dialog box, you can create a new tool bar.

Toolbars. The tool bars to be displayed can be selected from the list and the additional new
groups can be created by clicking the [New] button.
Options. Several options on the menu and task bar are defined in this tab.
Always show full menus. (This function is not working. )
Show full menu after a short delay. (This function is not working. )
Reset menu and toolbar usage data. (This function is not working. )
Large icons. The icons change to the large size icons.
Show screen tips on toolbars. Screen tips are displayed when you put the mouse
cursor on the icon.
Show shortcut keys on screen tips. The short cut key such as (Ctrl + D) is displayed
together with the screen tips.
Menu animations. (This function is not working. )

7.2.3 Right-click menu on the menu bar


When the Customize dialog box is displayed, a right-click menu is available to delete / edit / change a
menu, a pull-down menu or a tool bar icon. Right-click on them to open the right-click menu.

The following right-menu items are used:

Reset. to reset the menu, the pull-down menu or the tool bar icon, that was changed by other
right-click menu items, to the default.

Delete. to delete the selected menu, pull-down menu or tool bar icon.

Name. to set the name of the selected menu, pull-down menu or tool bar icon. The name is
displayed in the button with the icon.
