U.S. FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE STATEMENT
INFORMATION TO THE USER
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC
Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in
a commercial enviroment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a
residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own
expense.
Change or modification not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the users aulhority to operate
the equipment. Connecting of peripherals required the use of grounded shielded signal cables.

The
symbol, affixed on the equipment, means that the refuse of this equipment must be collected
separately.
Therefore the user shall deliver the related refuse to one of the special centres predisposed by the local
administrations for the separate refuse collection.
In alternative the user shall give the equipment back to the retailer in exchange for a new equivalent
equipment.
The separate collection of the refuse and the related operations for the treatment, recycling and waste
disposal, promote the manufacturing of new equipment using recycled materials thus limiting the
damages to the environment and the negative effects to the health due to an inadequate waste
management.
The unauthorized waste disposing of the product will be submitted to the administrative penalties in
conformity to the article 50 and subsequent articles of the D.lgs number 22/1997.

INTRODUCTION
LS100 is a reader/scanner created to operate easily and silently, with a modern design and of a compact size.
This product has been produced especially for banking and financial institution where it must be installed at cashier
front desks and thus must be able to carry out all necessary functions easily and without taking up too much space.
LS100 can process a single document at a time introduced in the manual drop feeder or until 15 document if optional
motorized feeder is present. It can read the codeline MICR, CMC7 / E13B or OCR imprint void stamp, print a
message on the back of the document for completing endorsement stamp and scan both sides of the document.
The processed document is deposited into the output tray that can collect about 5 documents. Connection to the
system is by USB 1.1, USB2.0 or serial RS232.
The peripheral can retain the document after it has read the codeline and scanned the front image, return it in the
input slot for imprinting or endorsing the document on the base of the results of the read codeline or of the data
extracted from the image.
In applications where the need is first to process the code line and to archive the document image in a second time,
the LS100 can read the code line and send it in the real time, store the image in his memory and send it afterwards in
background.
The peripheral can convert the image of the document in B\W but only the model that use serial RS232 can
compress it in TIFF before the transfer.
The base model are the follows:
LS100/1 interface: USB 1.1
LS100/2 interface: USB 1.1/serial RS232
LS100/3 interface: USB 2.0
LS100/4 interface: USB 2.0
LS100/5 interface: USB 2.0

GENERAL FEATURES
Image acquisition
The used scanner module is a new CIS which is a compact size. It is able to acquire images with
a resolution of 100/200 dpi,16/256 shades of grey, by using an illumination system RGB.
The protective glass slide at the rear of the scanner is placed at the printing height of the ink-jet
printhead and at the front of the scanner at the height of the stamp.
Autodiagnostics
The LS 100 has an internal log which records all the data needed for normal and extra
maintenance of the machine.
Data interface
The LS 100 interacts with the PC via a USB or RS232c data interface

Power system
The LS 100 has an external switching power system. This system can accept input at 110 - 230
vac. and provide the 24 volt DC needed. The LS 100 has also a switch to interrupt the power.
The peripheral can be provided by CTS Electronics with these additional functional parts:
Automatic Feeder (Features available on LS100/3, LS100/4 and LS100/5 in alternative to stamp)
The feeder can hold up to 15 documents at the time. The feeding system permit insert one or more
documents at a time as even when stopped the document presser remains open.
Double feeding check (Features available on LS100/3 and LS100/5)
The double feeding check measures the thickness of the document for transparency with infra red
light. It has got two separate sensors. This, in addition to a specific algorithm, allows a more
accurate checking of the feeding of two or more documents.
The LS100, when two documents are fed in, may react in two different ways depending on two
different settings available when the machine is turned on. There is a special warning signal or else
the machine stops.
Stamping mechanism (in alternative to feeder)
The LS 100 has a stamping system with an automatic inking pad. The stamp module is located in
the feeder slot and positioned in such a way as to avoid covering the signature on the front of the
cheques. Stamping is carried out on the front of the document. There is no indicator for when the ink
runs out.
The pad may be personalized by the end user in accordance with the guidelines given by CTS.
Ink-jet printing
The printhead used is high quality, has 50 nozzles and can write a whole series of alphanumerical
characters on the back of the document. The vertical working position of the printhead is fixed.
Magnetic badge reader
As an option the LS 100 can include a module for reading badges with a magnetic strip.
The Badge reader group can accept plastic cards with magnetic strips in compliance with the ISO
7810 and ISO 7811 standards. It can decode two tracks simultaneously 1&2 or 2&3 (on LS100/3
and LS100/4 also 1&2&3 available) and bidirectionally with a speed of between 10 e 90 cm/s.
OCR reading (Features available on LS100/3 and LS100/4)
The LS100 has got an optional electronic board (DSP) which, analysing a section of the front
image, provides the reading of OCR numerical and/or alphanumerical typed writing. For this
features, it uses neuron technology.

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS
SPECIFICATIONS
SETUP
In order to carry out the setting up of the peripheral it is possible to access a function in the LS100 demo
test diagnostic software. This function allows you to set the LS100 excluding the absent or unused
modules.
Load the program and on the command bar select SETTING, then select PERIPHERAL
SETUP from the pull-down menu;
With this command, the program will open up a window which allows you to note the latest
configuration that has been carried out (clicking on READ) or to carry out a new one;
Select a setting for each item among those listed and memorise the configuration on the LS100
memory by pressing WRITE.
NOTE!
Clicking on READ, the LS100 will load the latest configuration carried out
from the memory.

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENT
Some parts of the LS100 need electrical adjustment in addition to mechanical adjustment. These
adjustments may be carried out using the LS100 demo test diagnostic program and some documents
which have been created especially for the adjustment scenario.
PHOTOSENSOR GROUP
This group is made up of three photosensors, a transmitter and a receiver mounted on the same print
circuit and located along the path that the document travels inside the LS100.
The setting of these three sensors is carried out in parallel using a softward command. The software used
is the LS100 demo test diagnostic program.
Load the program and and on the command bar choose SETTING on the pull-down menu. In
this way it is possible to access the menu for calibration. Choose PHOTO CALIBRATION ;
With this command the LS100 will automatically set the three photosensors at the same time :
- the Feeder photosensor;
- the MICR photosensor;
- the Sorter photosensor.
If the setting is successful, the LS100 will emit an acoustic confirmation signal and at the same time
a led located in the centre of the central cover will light up;
If the setting is not successful, the LS100 will emit a double acoustic signal and at the same time
the led in the centre of the central cover will light up twice. In this case it is possible to identify the
faulty photosensor by accessing the PHOTOSENSOR GROUP DIAGNOSTICS
