Course Description:
This course helps students understand and cope with personal, family, and social challenges. Emphasis is placed on
communication, decision-making skills, and building stable relationships with family and peers. It addresses issues
that impact teenagers: self-concept, family and peer relationships, personal loss, dating and teenage pregnancy,
and dating abuse. Emphasis is placed on students taking personal responsibility for life
Supplies: A composition notebook to complete a SMASH BOOK that will be a journal including all notes and
reflections and activities! PLEASE BRING IN ASAP! We will begin to use them Aug
th.

School-wide Grading:
We will be following the school wide grading policy Things to remember about school wide grading policy:

Students are expected to be in the classroom at the bell and in their seats shortly after
Tardies and behavior issues will result in poor citizenship grade. Continual problems will result in further
consequences
Students are expected to turn work in on time. Students will be allow to turn in late work until the week before the
quarter ends. (See handbook for more info on late work)
Please see MISSED WORK area in classroom to get assignments you need.
No running errands during class. You may not go see other teachers.
Rewards will be given to students and classes who are well behaved, on task and making an effort
Students off-task or disrespectful to subs will have to complete an additional assignment. If your name is written
down in the sub report Mrs. Nelson will give you your extra assignment when it comes back.
