1.04 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
A. Preinstallation Meeting: Convene a preinstallation meeting one week before starting
work of this section; require attendance by all affected installers.
1.05 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Fire rated glass:
1. Fire ratings: 60 and 120 imnutes where shown on the Window Schedule.
2. For use in interior and exterior applications.
3. Category II human impact safety rating.
4. Provides protection by reducing the radiant and conductive heat transfer.
5. Passes positive pressure test standards UL 10C, UBC 7-2, UBC 7-4.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
A. See Section 01300 - Administrative Requirements, for submittal procedures.
B. Product Data on Glass Types:
Provide structural, physical and environmental
characteristics, size limitations, special handling or installation requirements.
C. Product Data on Glazing Compounds: Provide chemical, functional, and environmental
characteristics, limitations, special application requirements. Identify available colors.
D. Samples: Submit 2 samples of the following:

1.07 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Perform Work in accordance with GANA Glazing Manual and FGMA Sealant Manual for
glazing installation methods.
B. Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing the work of this section with
minimum five years documented experience.
C. Fire Rated Glass: Each lite shall bear permanent, non-removable label from UL
certifying it for use in tested and rated fire-rated assemblies.
1.08 DELIVERY HANDLING AND STORAGE
A. Deliver materials to specified destination in manufacturer's packaging, undamaged,
complete with glazing guidelines.
B. Do not expose fire rated glass to temperatures greater than 50 C or less then -40 C
during storage and transportation.
C. Store off ground, under cover, protected from weather and construction activities.
D. Do not expose the non-PVB side of fire rated glass to UV light.
E. Store sheets of glass vertically. DO NOT lean.
1.09 FIELD CONDITIONS
A. Do not install glazing when ambient temperature is less than 10 degrees C.
B. Maintain minimum ambient temperature before, during and 24 hours after installation of
glazing compounds.
1.10 WARRANTY
A. See Section 01780 - Closeout Submittals, for additional warranty requirements.
B. Sealed Insulating Glass Units: Provide a five (5) year warranty to include coverage for

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GLAZING TYPES
A. GL1 - Grey float, double glazed.
1. U-Value: 1.9/sqm.
2. Shading Co-efficient: 0.46.
3. Outer layer: 6mm Pilkington, grey tinted, fully tempered.
4. Air space: 12mm.
5. Inner layer : 6mm Pilkington Energy Advantage, clear, fully tempered, low E-coating.
B. GL2 - Low-iron clear float, double glazed, structural glass, spider fixings.
1. Outer layer: 6mm Pilkington Opti-white extra Clear, fully tempered.
2. Air space: 16mm.
3. Inner layer ; 6mm Pilkington Opti-white extra Clear, fully tempered, low E-coating.

D. Fire rated glass:
1. Generally: Fire-rated, clear glazing material for use in fire rated screens, doors and
borrowed lites.
2. Manufacturer: Pilkington Pyrostop as manufactured by Pilkington Fire Protection
Glass.
3. Composition: Composed of multiple sheets of Pilkington Optiwhite high visible
light transmitting glass laminated with intumescent interlayers.
4. Impact Safety Resistance: ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16CFR1201 (Cat. I and II).
5. Exterior Grade: PVB layer on exterior surface.
6. Permanently label each piece of Pilkington Pyrostop with the UL logo, product and
manufacturer's name, fire rating, human impact safety specification and the
appropriate use label.
7. Fire-Resistance Rating - 60 minutes and 120 min: Fire-resistance classified and
labeled per UL for fire rating as shown on the Window Elevations when tested in
accordance with ASTM E 119, UL 263 and CANS-101M.
8. Substitutions: No substitutions allowed.
E. Structural balustrade glazing:
1. Generally: Structural balustrade glass panels are to comply with the requirements of
Section 46.6 of NFPA 5000 - Building and Construction Code.
2. Glass type: Fully tempered and laminated clear glass complying with Category 11 of
CPSC 16 CFR 1261.
3. Comply with the requirements of NFPA 5000 Clause 46.6 re. support for handrail on
failure of supporting balustrade panels.

F. Glass pool fences and pool entry gates:
1. Manufacturer: Glass pool fences and gates to be an approved proprietary system
similar to that shown on the Landscape Hardscape Details. Submit proposals in
accordance with Submittals.
2. Compliance: Comply with local authority regulations, applicable standards and
codes.
3. Glazing: Clear toughed safety glass in accordance with relevant glazing codes but
at least 10mm thick.
4. Framing types: Semi-frameless and frameless as shown on the Landscape
Hardscape Details.
5. Posts where shown: 50 x 50mm powder coated aluminium.
6. Metal components generally: Powder coated aluminium or 316 stainless steel.
7. Fixings: 316 stainless steel.
8. Powder coating: Pigmented Organic Coating System: AAMA 2603; Polyester or
acrylic baked enamel finish. Colour to be as specified in the External Finishes
Schedule.
9. Entry Gate hardware:
a. Generally: Gate hardware to comply with relevant US standards and local
authority regulations.
b. Use only stainless steel or powder coated aluminium hardware, Hardware to be
submitted for approval as specified in Submittals.
c. Self closing hinges.
d. Side pull magnetic latch.
2.02 EXTERIOR GLAZING ASSEMBLIES
A. Structural Design Criteria: Select type and thickness to withstand dead loads and wind
loads acting normal to plane of glass at design pressures calculated in accordance with
ASCE 7.
1. Use the procedure specified in ASTM E 1300 to determine glass type and thickness.
2. Limit glass deflection to 1/200 or flexure limit of glass, whichever is less, with full
recovery of glazing materials.
3. Thicknesses listed are minimum.

C. Laminated Glass: Float glass laminated in accordance with ASTM C 1172.


1. Laminated Safety Glass: Comply with 16 CFR 1201 test requirements for Category
II.
2. Plastic Interlayer:1.52 mm thick, minimum.
3. Where fully tempered is specified or required, provide glass that has been tempered
by the tong-less horizontal method.

G. Silicone Sealant: Single component; neutral curing; capable of water immersion
without loss of properties; non-bleeding, non-staining; ASTM C 920, Type S,
Grade NS, Class 25, Uses M, A, and G; cured Shore A hardness of 15 to 25;
selected color.
2.06 GLAZING COMPOUNDS FOR FIRE RATED GLASS
A. Generally: Comply with the fire rated glazing frame manufacturer's tested and approved
fire rated glazing systems.
B. Glazing Tape: Closed cell polyvinyl chloride foam, coiled on release paper over adhesive
on two sides, maximum water absorption by volume of 2%, designed for compression of
25% to affect an air and vapor seal.
C. Silicone Sealant: One-part neutral curing silicone, medium modulus sealant, Type S;
Grade NS; Class 25 with additional movement capability of 50% in both extension and
compression (total 100%); Use (Exposure) NT; Uses (Substrates) G, A, and O as
applicable.
D. Available Products:

E. Setting Blocks: Hardwood or calcium silicate; glass width by 4 inches by 3/16 inch thick.

2.07 GLAZING ACCESSORIES FOR NON FIRE RATED GLASS
A. Setting Blocks: Neoprene, 80 to 90 Shore A durometer hardness, ASTM C 864 Option I.
Length of 25 mm for each square meter of glazing or minimum 100 mm x width of
glazing rabbet space minus 1.5 mm x height to suit glazing method and pane weight and
area.
B. Spacer Shims: Neoprene, 50 to 60 Shore A durometer hardness, ASTM C 864 Option I.
Minimum 75 mm long x one half the height of the glazing stop x thickness to suit
application, self adhesive on one face.
C. Glazing Gaskets: Resilient silicone extruded shape to suit glazing channel retaining slot;
ASTM C 864 Option I; black colour.
D. Glazing Clips: Manufacturer's standard type.

2.08 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL AND TESTS


2.09 ESTIDAMA PBRS REQUIREMENT RE-R1: MINIMUM ENERGY PERFORMANCE
& RE-1: IMPROVED ENERGY PERFORMANCE:
A. The project includes different types of Glass as per the annexed drawings; The
Contractor shall comply with the following Glass Characteristics:
1. GL1 Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 1.9 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.22
2. GL2 Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 5 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.3
3. GL3 & GL4Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 2.7 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.3

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that openings for glazing are correctly sized and within tolerance.
B. Verify that surfaces of glazing channels or recesses are clean, free of obstructions that

may impede moisture movement, weeps are clear, and ready to receive glazing.
C. Examine glass framing, with glazier present, for compliance with the following:
1. Manufacturing and installation tolerances, including those for size, squareness,
offsets at corners.
2. Minimum required face or edge clearances.
3. Observable edge damage or face imperfections.
D. Do not proceed with glazing until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
E. Clean glazing channels and other framing members receiving glass immediately before
glazing. Remove coatings that are not firmly bonded to substrates.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Fabricate glass and other glazing products in sizes required to glaze openings indicated
for Project, with edge and face clearances, edge and surface conditions, and bite
complying with recommendations of product manufacturer and referenced glazing
standard as required to comply with system performance requirements.
B. Prime surfaces scheduled to receive sealant.
C. Install sealants in accordance with ASTM C 1193 and FGMA Sealant Manual.

D. Install sealant in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.


3.03 INSTALLATION
A. Fire rated glazing:
1. Comply with referenced GANA standards and instructions of manufacturers of
glass, glazing sealants, and glazing compounds.
2. Protect glass from edge damage during handling and installation. Inspect glass
during installation and discard pieces with edge damage that could affect glass
performance.
3. Cut glazing tape to length and set against permanent stops, flush with sight lines to
fit openings exactly, with stretch allowance during installation.
4. Place setting blocks located at quarter points of glass with edge block no more than
150mm from corners.
5. Glaze vertically into labeled fire-rated metal frames or partition walls with same fire
rating as glass and push against tape for full contact at perimeter of pane or unit.
6. Place glazing tape on free perimeter of glazing in same manner described above.
7.

Do not remove or tamper protective edge tape. If the protective edge tape is
damaged, return the piece to the factory for replacement.

8.

Install removable stop and secure without displacement of tape.

9.

Do not pressure glaze.

10. Glaze exterior fire rated glass with PVB layer toward the exterior of the building.
11. Knife trim protruding tape.
12. Apply cap bead of silicone sealant along void between the stop and the glazing, to
uniform line, with level to form watershed away from glass. Tool or swipe sealant
surface smooth.
13. Provide minimum 3mm edge clearance.
14. Install so that appropriate UL and Pilkington Pyrostop markings remain
permanently visible on inside of building.
B. Exterior/interior dry method (gasket glazing):
1. Place setting blocks at 1/4 points with edge block no more than 150 mm from
corners.
2. Place setting blocks at 1/4 points with edge block no more than 150 mm from
corners.
3. Rest glazing on setting blocks and push against fixed stop with sufficient pressure
on gasket to attain full contact.
4. Install removable stops without displacing glazing gasket; exert pressure for full
continuous contact.

A. Temporarily brace glass in position for duration of glazing process. Mask edges of glass
at adjoining glass edges and between glass edges and framing members.
B. Temporarily secure a small diameter non-adhering foamed rod on back side of joint.
C. Apply sealant to open side of joint in continuous operation; thoroughly fill the joint without
displacing the foam rod. Tool the sealant surface smooth to concave profile.
D. Permit sealant to cure then remove foam backer rod. Apply sealant to opposite side,
tool smooth to concave profile.
E. Remove masking tape.

3.05 INSTALLATION - PLASTIC FILM


A. Install plastic film with adhesive, applied in accordance with film manufacturer's
instructions.
B. Place without air bubbles, creases or visible distortion.
C.

Fit tight to glass perimeter with razor cut edge.

3.06 MANUFACTURER'S FIELD SERVICES


A. Glass and Glazing product manufacturers to provide field surveillance of the installation
of their products.
B. Monitor and report installation procedures and unacceptable conditions.
3.07 CLEANING
A. Remove glazing materials from finish surfaces.
B. Remove labels after Work is complete.
C. Clean glass and adjacent surfaces.
3.08 PROTECTION
A. After installation, mark pane with an 'X' by using removable plastic tape or paste; do not
mark heat absorbing or reflective glass units.
B. Protect glass from contact with contaminating substances resulting from construction
operations. Remove any such substances by method approved by glass manufacturer.
C. Wash glass on both faces not more than four days prior to date scheduled for

inspections intended to establish date of substantial completion. Wash glass by method
