THE GEMS - Edition1

Firstly, I would to congratulate the GNews committee for successfully publishing this
bulletin. The phrase time flies so fast has never be truer as for the past 3 months, much
agenda and incidents have occurred. Among them are the PT3 result announcement,
which marked a new milestone for Kolej as we emerged as the best among the
rest with a grade point average of 1.30 and as many as 24 candidates successfully
achieving straight As in the exam. This proud accomplishment proves to be a zenith
for Kolej in the year 2015 thus putting a grand closure in the end.
It is undeniable that this encourages me to strive along with the members of
the school in order to achieve the prestigious Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBT)
recognition by 2019. It is indeed a challenging vision to achieve, but it is possible
nonetheless. All Permata Gemilang of Kolej D.P.AH. Abdillah needs to realise this and
go outside the norms and comfort zones as well as synergise in order to make the
dream become a reality. The successes that we accomplished from early 2016 are
strong indicators that the Eureka, Yes! spirit is more than adequate to motivate us to
be better in the future. In the first two months, Kolej has managed to win 9 awards in
13 categories that were contested including 1st runner up for Best Overall Company
in the Program Tunas Niaga (PROTUNe) convention at state level 2015 and also 1st
runner up for the Olympiad Matematik Gabungan Pendidikan Melayu Malaysia
competition at national level. Very recently, our school has managed to maintain
our spot as the 4th best school out of 190 schools in Sarawak for the Sijil Pelajaran
Malaysia (SPM) 2015 result. Even though our school grade point average (GPS) has
decreased from 2.41 (2014) to 2.75 (2015) but this should be viewed as a motivation
for Kolejians to work harder, smarter and systematic.
The challenges that we will face prior to PT3 and SPM that is due in 7 and 8 months
respectively encourages us to seek for sources of inspiration. As I quote Elvin Toffler,
The illiterate of the future will not be the person who cannot read. It will be the person
who does not know how to learn. Therefore, we must sort our priorities and emphasise
of the education agendas in order to be prepared for the definite future,PT3 and
SPM; thus become the very person that Alvin Toffler has ingeniously said. It is of my
greatest hope that Kolejs Permata Gemilang will strive under the schools slogan,
WE MUST, WE CAN, WE WILL EXCEL, EUREKA, YES!

G for Gotong Royong

Cleanliness is a very vital aspect in
everyones life. Therefore, in order
to be excellent students, we should
ensure that our surrounding is clean,
particularly in the classrooms. A clean
and tidy surrounding will give strong
impacts on students interest to study.
On the 27th of January 2016, the
schools 3K squad, which are led by
our two teachers, Miss Siti Norhayati
bt Sapong and Ustazah Raniah bt
Amin, had organised an event called
Gotong Royong Perdana.
This programme was held to ensure

that the cleanliness of the school is

always at an excellent level.
The launching was held at Dewan
Permata Bestari officiated by our
principal, Tuan Haji Ibrahim bin
Jamain. He was invited to plant
a tree to signify Kolejs support
towards green environment. He also
announced the new name for our
lecture hall, which is known as Dewan
Permata Gemilang.

helped the 3K squad to distribute the
cleaning tools needed on that day
The cleaning started at 3 p.m. and the
weather was nice too. Many admitted
that they did not like the idea at frist;
however the day turned out to be a
productive one. Everybody worked
their fingers to the bone for a cleaner

Bacaan Yaasin
dan Aktiviti
Kerohanian
Assalamualaikum,
Seperti yang kita sedia maklum,
hari Jumaat yang penuh barakah
merupakan penghulu segala hari.
Kolej D.P.A.H. Abdillah juga tidak
mensia-siakan syafaat hari Jumaat
dengan mengadakan aktiviti bacaan
Yassin pada setiap pagi Jumaat.
Aktiviti yang dianjurkan oleh
Persatuan Pelajar Islam Kolej (PPIK)
ini wajib dihadiri oleh semua warga
permata Kolej yang beragama
Islam. Pelajar kebiasaannya akan
berkumpul di Dewan Bestari
sebelum bacaan Yassin bermula.
Aktiviti ini memakan masa selama
30 minit dengan dimula oleh bacaan
Yassin pada jam 6.50 sehingga 7.10.
Manakala 10 minit yang terakhir
pula akan diadakan sedikit tazkirah
daripada Tuan Haji Ibrahim.
Shalom,
On the other hand, the Christians
have their morning devotion session
at 6.30 a.m. every Friday, at Dewan
Kuliah. The morning devotion
session includes a sharing either
by a great speaker, a teacher, or a
student. Christian followers of the
school are very positive about the
programme as they can learn more
about the word of God and how to
implement the values in their lives.
The morning devotion programme
is usually adjourned by 7.15 a.m.

SMK. Sg. Maong.
On the next Monday,
1st of February, Kolej
DPAH Abdillah sent its

with SMK. St. Mary, SMK.

Petrajaya, and SMK. Jalan
Arang. They dominated
all the three matches
by 8-2, 13-2 and 19-0
respectively. They even
succeeded to the third
round by winning against
SMK. St. Teresa on the
second day. However,
they didnt make it to the
next round after being
defeated by SMK. Tabuan
Jaya.

This move is in line with

the schools objective of
producing students who
can speak the languages
proficiently. Hence, it
is hoped that students
and teachers will take
the initiative to practice
using the languages
among
themselves
in those designated
days. As English is the
schools niche, it is hoped

that students will be

able to improve their
confidence in speaking
the language as well as
being proud speakers of
Bahasa Melayu Baku and
Japanese language.
