Subject: Backup and restoration Policy for ERP servers at NTPC Ltd
The ERP servers are installed to cater the ERP applications from data center against the PO #
01/CM/CMPG/P0-65170 dated 22/12/2006. The various categories of servers including
Superdome,Main Data Storage XP 12K and 3par storage are installed at critical server room of
data centre.
To backup the Application Data of ERP Servers in the Data storage XP12K and 3par storage,
placed inside the critical server room of Data center, on daily & periodically basis, one Tape
Library ESL-712e along with backup software is also installed in critical server room of data
center.
For taking backup of the ERP servers the following draft policy is proposed to implement the
backup.
Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this policy is as follows:

To safeguard the information assets of NTPC Limited

To prevent the loss of data in the case of an accidental deletion or corruption of data,
system failure, or disaster.

To permit timely restoration of information and business processes, should such events
occur

To manage and secure backup and restoration processes and the media employed
in the process.

This policy applies only to ERP servers in Data Center

Policy

Online database backup of all ERP Production/Quality/development servers shall be done

on daily basis.

All production servers backup shall be run overnight and completed before 9 am
on working days.
All ERP production and development weekly backup tapes would be sent to offsite
location (CSES Premises) on weekly basis and old tapes (n-2 weeks old) would be
brought back at Data center for recycling purpose. Thus last two week backup copies
would be retained at any point of time.
All ERP Production/Quality/development servers monthly backup (two copies) would be
taken at the start of each month and would be stored at offsite location and old monthly
backup media (n-2 months) would be brought back at Data center for further use. Thus
last two month backup copies would be retained at any point of time.

All ERP Production/Quality/development servers fiscal year backup (two copies) would be
taken in the month of July every year and would be stored and retained at offsite location.

Ignite backup of all servers would be taken on quarterly basis

Restoration drill would be done on a quarterly basis.

Backup and Restoration request for any system (Other than Scheduled backup and
restoration) shall be approved beforehand by competent authority.
