One day, one of my students asked me that he wanted to change his 3rd

language. I asked him why. He replied that he felt very difficult to learn his
mother tongue. I spoke his father too. He also told the same. He told that his son
was not interested in learning his mother tongue.
I dont know what they think about their mother tongue...
Mother tongue is the language of heart and mind. Today, we have been
witnessing an aspect of globalization. People move from one country to another
for different reasons such as better education, the need for a good job, a better
life. Whatever the reason living in a country may have a lot of benefits but it
affect one's mother tongue.
First, we have to take pride in our culture and the country we were born. Every
language spoken in the world represents a special culture, colour and asset and
to everyone mother tongue is certainly one of the most precious Treasures in our
lives. Its our duty and responsibility to preserve it and pass it down from
generation to generation. Let us do this first.
Whether by necessity or because of some other reasons learning an another
language brings a lot of benefits in our life .A new language opens a new
window and a new perspective and makes us more open-minded and respectful
to other cultures, lifestyle, customs and beliefs.
The world has a new mania. A mania for learning English.
Do u know that how many people are trying to learn English worldwide? Two
billion people.
In India, in Southeast Asia, in Latin America and most of all, in China. It is a
Chinese government law that every student has to learn English from his 3rd
standard. . That's why this year, China will become the world's largest Englishspeaking country.
The intensity to learn English has become unimaginable throughout the world,
unless you witness it.
Why English?
In a single word. Opportunity.
Opportunity for a better education, a job, a new life style.

So is English mania good or bad? Is English a tsunami, washing away other

languages? Not likely .English is the world's second language. Your native
language is your life. But with English you can become part a of a wider
conversation. A global conversation about global problems, like climate change
or poverty, or hunger or disease. The world has other universal languages
too. Mathematics is the language of science. Music is the language of
emotions. And now English is becoming the language of problem-solving. Not
because America is pushing it, but because the world is pulling it. So English
mania is a turning point.
Like the harnessing of electricity in our cities, or the fall of the Berlin
Wall, English represents hope. A hope for a better future -- a future where the
world has a common language to solve its common problems.
Thank you very much.
