Situational Context
Nonprofits have an obligation to seek new and ever more effective ways of
making tangible progress toward their missions and vision statements. To
achieve these milestones requires (i) seeking new revenue streams (ii) scaling up
existing interventions, (iii) it also entails introducing innovative and creative
programming but most importantly it entails building organizational capacity to
be in a position to effectively deliver on the three aforementioned opportunities
for growth of an organization. Many organizations focus on keeping
administrative costs low instead of building the organizational capacity necessary
to achieve their aspirations effectively and efficiently. This is not surprising, given
that donors and funders have traditionally been more interested in supporting an
exciting new idea than in building an organization that can effectively carry out
that idea.
This must change; development organizations must recognize that excellence in
programmatic innovation is insufficient to achieve set goals and lasting results.
Great programs need great organizations behind them. The only way to build a
great organization is to build the capacity of staff and establish operating systems
that are not bound by time and are adhered to at all levels.
As CSOs, Corporates, Community Groups and Organizations play increasingly
important roles in our society, it becomes even more critical for them to perform
effectively. In response due to the reducing space in development aid by donors,
organizations have demonstrated a growing interest for improved governance,
operational, programming and management practices and principles that will
help them build high-performing organizations.
Despite this growing need on the importance of capacity building, there is also
little information about what works and what does not in building individual and
organizational capacity. This is largely due to the historic inattention to capacity
building, which has not been adequately supported by funders and has been of
secondary importance to nonprofit managers trying to deliver programs and
services to people who need them. This situation is changing, and more funders
are dedicating attention and financial support to organizational capacity.
Biesshop Consulting underscores the need for sustained dialogue around the
need for capacity building for individuals, organizations and groups as a premise
for achieving set objectives and mandates based on evidence by findings from
organizational capacity assessments exercises and surveys as entry points for
formulating Capacity Development Plans (CDPs) to be adopted by organizations
and implemented by Biesshop Consulting.

Our Clients

How we do business
Our core business makes a valuable
contribution to our clients. For many
people and organizations our advisory
services and programs are, quite
literally and deliberately geared at
retooling
individuals,
establishing
working
systems
and
actual
programming. These approaches define
how we achieve our goals. The way we
conduct our business affects our
relationship with groups such as:
(i) Local, national and international
organizations that who use our
services;
(ii) Their employees whom are
mandated to deliver set mission
and vision priorities;
(iii) Their stakeholders & beneficiaries
who are in continuous need to
their interventions and services.
Our reputation with our clients and the
trust they place in our services is critical
to our business. But our pride in what
we do does not mean we can ignore
the critical need of a continuous
development,
enhancement
and
improvement of our services.

Almost every company has something

about client focus in its mission
statement. The larger the service
organisation, the more executives tend
to insulate themselves from clients.
Some rely on client-satisfaction surveys
and focus groups. Others simply assume
that clients are just like them! These
kinds of service companies end up
delivering services that suit them, not
their clients.

Well, we do not !
We understand that our clients organizations work in all sorts of sectors
and individuals may be senior
managers, middle management or
junior staff members. They have
different goals, with different needs,
even their cultures and environments
might be different. Despite these
differences they share a number of
common goals. They may wish to
develop a competitive edge to maintain
their business growth in increasingly
competitive work environments, this
may be;
Achieve goals to have the
minimum impact for Interruptions
Better nurture their staff to
achieve
to
their
highest
performance levels
Make an immediate, measurable
and lasting difference in their
enterprise
Improve
their
project
management
skills
and
relationships
Solve problems more effectively
and be solution-focused

Organizational Development Initiatives (ODI)

Organizational development is a body of knowledge and practice that enhances organizational

Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RM&E)

M&E is an embedded concept and constitutive part of every project or programme design. It is not
imposed control instrument by the donor or an optional accessory of any project or program. M&E is
ideally understood as dialogue on development and its progress between stakeholders. It is integral in
evaluation. During an evaluation, information from previous monitoring processes is used to understand
the ways in which the project or program developed and stimulated change.

Governance and Leadership

Governance is the process of providing strategic leadership. It entails the functions of setting direction,
making policy and strategy decisions, overseeing and monitoring organizational performance, and
ensuring overall accountability. Nonprofit governance is a political and organizational process involving
multiple functions and engaging multiple stakeholders. The meaning of governance is relatively different
for nonprofit and governmental settings. Public sector (government) governance refers to the political
