ACTION:
Background: Board staff has prepared R277-409 in response to concerns that interscholastic
activity associations have been unresponsive to direction from the Board on certain issues.
Accordingly, this rule would prevent schools from participating in associations, as defined by
the rule, if the association has rules that do not align with specified board policies.
Board Strategic Plan:
This item supports the following imperative and strategies in the Boards Strategic Plan:
Oversight - Monitor, review, and provide general supervision to all public education
institutions and other entities for which the State Board has responsibility.
Anticipated Action:
It is proposed that the Standards and Assessment Committee consider approving R277-409 on
first reading and, if approved by the Committee, the Board consider approving R277-409 on
second reading.
