CONTEXT:
A letter of recommendation used to attain a service academy nomination from: the
Oregon congresswomen for my district, the Oregon Senators, the Vice President, and the
President.
The following character traits are highly recommended to include in this type of
recommendation letter: ability to work under pressure, ability to work well with others,
communication skills, leadership potential, motivation, organizational skills, and
responsibility.

PERSONAL TRAITS:

My key strengths are being organized, being prepared, and following through with
tasks. I have recently accomplished a variety of things. I was accepted into the Summer
Leadership Experience at West Point, The United States Military Academy. Out of 6,000
applicants I was one of 500 to attend session 1. West Point is an elite school, and it is very
competitive to get into this program. I have also accomplished many things on the track. I
have gone to the state track meet all three years of high school thus far, competing in a
variety of team and individual events and placing in the top eight in 80% of the events in
which I competed. I have also played on the Varsity girls basketball teams all of my high
school years.
I am very organized, and I like to have things done at the specific time it is due and
completed with the highest quality of which I am capable. I struggle with delegating tasks to
other people, and I am working hard to trust people to complete tasks, even if their
competency has not been proven to me yet. I need to work on trusting people and letting
them shine beside me.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE

CLASSROOM:

I am huge proponent of student leadership. I have been a leader representative of

the class of 2017 since I was a freshman. I was one of the head organizers of the 2014
freshmen spirit week, and I helped lead the organization team for the 2015 Winter Formal,
the 2015 Falcon Frenzy, the 2015 canned food drive, and the 2016 Winter Wishes activity. As
a leadership student, I invested a lot of time inside and outside of school planning and
putting on these events along with many more. These events help make going to school fun
and help make memories for Liberty students that they will carry forever, which is a huge
motivation for me being involved in leadership. I want students to have a fun high school
experience that they can tell their kids about one day. They may overlook or not even be
aware of all of the planning that I, as well as my classmates, did to plan the event, but no
matter, we still have the satisfaction of making some great experiences and memories for
our classmates as well as ourselves.

EMPLOYMENT:

In my junior year, I worked for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) track and field
program. This is the number one ranked middle and elementary school track program in the
nation. I worked as a bull pen clerk at all the developmental track meets. As a clerk, I was
the main leader in charge of the organization of over 600 athletes and their running events. I
led a team of parent volunteers, training them in a short amount of time each weekend, of
what they needed to do in order to help the meet run smoothly. The running events set the
pace for the whole meet. If the races fall behind the schedule due to poor organization, it
would hold up the entire meet. Under my supervision in the bull pen, we were often ahead of

schedule, and the kids were always in their lanes, in the correct heat, and ready to run. This
was a great employment experience, because I learned to multi-task, how to take charge of
large groups, and how to train and lead volunteers.
Recently, I have had the opportunity to help teach kids the fundamentals of different
sports. First, I work with the Anthony Newman Nike Basketball Camps as a coach. Here, I run
drills, coach games, and show young athletes what it looks like to play basketball and other
sports at a high level. I am able to give them insight on the benefits of striving to do their
best, having a positive attitude, and having fun while doing all of it. Along with that, I
volunteer with the Hillsboro Track Club, through Hillsboro Parks and Recreation. With this
opportunity, I am a youth track coach working with children ages six to 13, teaching them
the fundamentals of different track and field events. Similar to basketball coaching, I guide
athletes on how to compete in different track and field competitions while having fun and
also developing their skills so they can compete in middle and high school.
Over the past few years I have also been a babysitter for the majority of my
summers. Babysitting has taught me how to be responsible. Having the lives of children in
your hands can be scary, however, I realized that I am more than capable of handling the
difficult tasks along with adapting to quickly changing situations. I learned how help kids
through times of trouble, joy, and crankiness. I can apply these skills to school and work by
not letting what other people do get me irritated and be able to handle the situation
appropriately.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES:

I love to be active, and I like to stay busy by participating in athletic activities like
track and basketball. These physical activities give me the chance to clear my mind, focus
on the task at hand, and contemplate what I want to accomplish with that sport. I also love
to read; to me reading is an escape from reality. It is a chance to get lost in a good book and
relax.

CAREER INTERESTS:
I desire to have a career in which I serve my country, community, and myself. I am
applying for admittance to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York to
join the Army, get an education, and serve my country. I am undecided on what type of
career I ultimately want to pursue, as much of my education paths depend on the college I
attend. If I go to West Point, I may go into engineering. If I do not get accepted into West
Point, I may go into the medical field, so that I can help make a difference in peoples lives in
the healthcare industry.

UNIQUENESS:

I like to go above and beyond in the things I do. Even when my best is not good
enough, I try to make any situation work out for the best not only for myself, but for others
as well. This trait makes me unique, because I am service- orientated and strive to make the
world a better place.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION OR AWARDS:

I have earned Varsity letters in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track and Field each of
my high school years. Additionally, I as selected as Captain or Leader for several sports.
During each season I have been awarded the Scholar Athlete Award, which is awarded to
student athletes who have maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher while undergoing all of the time
commitments and activities that come along with being a varsity athlete. Also, due to my
grades, I was inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) as a sophomore, and I was
voted 2015-2016 NHS Secretary by my peers, which shows that my peers trust of and see
me as a good leader.

HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCES:

Throughout high school I have been involved on several teams and many leadership
projects. By being part of many teams, I have bonded with people and formed relationships
in a variety of settings, and I know how to present myself in different situations with different
people. Athletics have taught me that I cannot give up no matter how hard a practice may

be. If I truly want to achieve a goal, I have to push through that pain to get things done. I
have also enrolled myself in vigorous classes, with a tougher course load compared to some
of my classmates; I have demonstrated that I want to go beyond what is simply just
required. At times this academic challenge has been difficult to manage, yet I always excel
and have managed to maintain a 3.96 GPA over three years.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE ME A LETTER OF

RECOMENDATION.
