In politics, people take a stand on what the government should be run on. People voice their opinions and thoughts on how their views of government would be the most efficient is society. People agree, disagree and agree to disagree. Although they have opinions, it is important to voice every single relevant one. One thing every group or party has in common is that their viewpoints are embedded within the context of both democracy and the free enterprise system. One view, the conservative view, believe that the past is a store of wisdom developed by countless generations who have faced many of the same questions and issues that we face today. The point of view from the conservative party is that traditions should be respected and things that we learn in the past should be conserved. Hence the name conservatives. Those who identify themselves as a member of the conservative party are often associated with family and religion (Macionis 2010). Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. They also believe that the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals (Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs 2010). Another view to be discussed is the Liberal view. Unlike conservatives, liberals feel that people should be free from the past to decide, on their own, questions about how to live their own lives. In their point of view, the perfect society to them is one where people are able to make choices for themselves under the inspection that the society be both tolerant and respectful of individual rights (Macionis 2010).

Liberals believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality
for all. It is the duty of the government to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need (Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs 2010). Although liberals and conservatives differ in some important ways, but they both accept the current political system In contrast, comes the last group of relevance. The Radical left view. Those who identify as radical have more extreme views and seek basic change in society (Macionis 2010). These parties have their own opinions on very sensitive subjects of matter that occur in the United States. Some include: Abortion, the death penalty, global warming, gun control, immigration and same-sex marriage. For example: Conservatives view that same-sex marriage is the union of one man and one woman and requiring citizens to sanction same-sex relationships violates moral and religious beliefs of millions of Christians, Jews, Muslims and others, who believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman. While liberals feel that Marriage is the union of people who love each other and that it should be legal for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, to ensure equal rights for all. Liberals highly support same sex-marriage and feel it should be a right to those regardless of their sexual orientation and Prohibiting same-sex citizens from marrying denies them their civil rights. Finally, Radical left individuals are primarily worried about ending homophobia and allowing homosexuals to be full members of society. They believe that legalizing gay marriage is necessary, if not sufficient, to normalize homosexuality (Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs 2010).
