WARNING: To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and
carefully follow all WARNINGS and SERVICE PRECAUTIONS.
DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Disable air bag system before servicing any air bag system
or steering column component. Failure to do this could
result in accidental air bag deployment and possible
personal injury. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
Back-up power supply maintains deployment voltage for about
2 minutes after battery is disconnected. When disabling air
bag system, always wait at least 2 minutes, after
disconnecting battery cables, to resume procedure.
After repairs, ensure AIR BAG warning light works
properly and that no system faults are indicated.
See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
Always wear safety glasses when servicing or handling an
air bag.
All SRS component fasteners are specially coated, and are
designed with a specific function. Never replace SRS
component fasteners with other than original equipment parts.
Air bag module must be stored in its original special
container until used for service. It must be stored in a
clean, dry place, away from sources of extreme heat, sparks,

Removal
1) Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Disable air
bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
2) Driver-side air bag module is mounted on steering wheel
face. See Fig. 3. Position wheels straight-ahead. Remove cruise
control switches and covers from steering wheel back shroud.
Disconnect wires. See Fig. 3.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten module screws
to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. DO NOT connect negative
battery cable at this time. Perform system operation check to ensure
system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.

Stored Codes
Stored codes are intermittent codes and are accessed through
DRB. If code is intermittent, AIR BAG warning light glows for 12
seconds or more and then goes out. Intermittent fault codes are stored
in ACM memory, along with number of times code was active and number
of key cycles fault was in memory. Minimum time stored for any code is
one minute. Stored codes will not automatically erase. DRB is required
to erase codes. However, If there have been 100 malfunction free
ignition cycles the diagnostic code is erased and the ignition cycle
counter is reset to zero.
Erase Stored Codes
Erase stored codes feature is also useful as a diagnostic
tool. It is impossible to erase a stored code until cause of code is
corrected.
Intermittent Codes
If fault code is intermittent and malfunction is not
problem may not be located while performing diagnostic tests.
case, stored code can only suggest an area to inspect.
If any other intermittent codes set, check for loose
corroded connections, damaged components, and damaged wiring.
obvious problems are found, erase stored codes. With ignition

NOTE:
1) Using DRB, read ACM active codes. If DRB shows NO CCD BUS
COMMUNICATION, replace ACM. If DRB does not show NO CCD BUS
COMMUNICATION, ensure DRB is in SYSTEM MONITORS and perform a CCD BUS
TEST. Wiggle DRB wiring and connector between DLC and DRB. If DRB
shows NO RESPONSE CONDITION AT ANY TIME, replace DRB or cable as
necessary. If DRB does not show NO RESPONSE CONDITION AT ANY TIME,
perform CCD BUS TEST.
2) While wiggling Wiring harness and connectors, observe CCD
BUS TEST. If BUS OPERATIONAL does not show, repair as necessary. If
BUS OPERATIONAL shows, perform
