    AsapublicservicefollowuptoSept.17reportsaboutadistrictstudentssocialmedia
    postagainstthedistrict,pleasehelpreassurethecommunitythatthedistrictandtheState
    CollegePoliceDepartmenthavethesituationundercontrol.
    Afterathoroughinvestigation,policehavedeterminedthethreatwasnotcredible.
    However,thedistrictwillfollowitsprotocolforsafetyincidentsaswellastakeextraprecautions
    toensurethesafetyofallourschools.
    SuperintendentBobODonnellsentthefollowingnotewithupdatedinformationtodistrict
    parentsandemployeesonSunday:

    DearSCASDCommunity,

    Thiscommunicationisanupdatetothesafetyincidentinvolvingastudentspostingonsocialmediathis
    weekend.

    BecauseoftheStateCollegeBoroughPoliceDepartmentsthoroughinvestigation,weareconfidentthatno
    threattoourstudentsoremployeesexists.OnSaturday,theteenagerwhopostedtheconcerningInstagram
    messagecalledthepoliceandadmittedpostingtheimageandmessage.Policeimmediatelymetwiththe
    studentandparentsandobtainedthedeviceusedforthepost,aswellasverifiedthatthestudenthasno
    knownaccesstoweapons.Thefamilycontinuestobeverycooperativewiththeauthoritiesandschool
    district.

    Asaprecautionarystep,wehavebeenworkingwithpolicetoimplementadditionalsecuritymeasuresinour
    schoolsstartingtomorrowmorning.InadditiontotheSchoolResourceOfficers(SRO)whoarepermanently
    assignedtooursecondaryschools(grades612),andtheroutinedailypatrolsandvisitstoallschools,there
    willbeincreasedvisibilityofpoliceofficersthroughoutallschools(gradesK12).

    Pleaseknowthatwhenstudentsmakepotentiallythreateningcommentsand/orsignificantlydisruptour
    schools,wekeeptheresponsiblestudentsfromattendingschooluntilthepolice,districtandstudent
    assistanceservicesarecompletelycomfortablewiththesafetyofallstudents,includingtheresponsible
    individuals.Inallcases,wemakeacarefulevaluationpriortoconsideringwhethertheinvolvedstudentwill
    returntoschool.Iwillcontinuetobedirectlyinvolvedinthefacetofacemeetingsthroughouttheprocess
    regardingthestudentinvolvedinthisweekendsincident.

    Weappreciatethestudentsandparentswhobroughtthepostingtotheattentionoftheauthorities.While
    districtofficialsandlocalpolicemonitorsocialmediaregularly,wearenotawareofallconcernsthatmay
    exist.Wecontinuetoencourageparentstomonitortheirchild'ssocialmediaaccounts.Furthermore,we
    requestthatanyonewhoisawareofsuspiciousorconcerningpoststoreportthesedirectlytothepoliceand
    yourchildsprincipal.

    PleaseknowthatmywifeandIhavethreechildrenwhoattendSCASDschools,andIwouldnotpermitusto
    openschoolsifthepoliceorouradministrativeteambelievedthatsafetywasaconcern.
