Western culture is a term used very broadly to refer to a heritage of social

norms, ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems, political systems, and
specific artifacts and technologies that have some origin or association with Europe. The
term is applied to European countries and countries whose history is strongly marked by
European immigration, colonization, and influence, such as the continents of the
Americasand Australasia, whose current demographic majority is of European ethnicity, and
is not restricted to the continent of Europe (source Wikipedia.com).
Based on that case, I believe that the invasion of western culture is really give a big
influence to many sectors, such as tradition, culture, culinary, habits, etc. Therefore, I will
concern to tell you from culture and tradition in Indonesia facing the invasion. I believe most
of the young generation of Indonesia nowadays already influenced by western culture, for
example they become lazy to know even learn about their own culture, such as traditional
dance or traditional instrument, even their native language. They think by following up the
trends or western culture make them feel not lame and awesome. Just because a simple
habits, but will give a big impact to this rich-culture country become lack of cultural
generation. Mostly young Indonesian, just amazed and want to know more about the other
countrys culture, so they just compared it to Indonesias culture that we oftenly found hard
to learn and has many condition, such as Tari Bedaya Keraton from DI Yogyakarta,
Indonesia. One of the requirement for the dancers of Tari Bedaya is not having period at
that time, no matter how hard they practice for the rehearsal, but then one of them got
period, they would be replaced. Because the Keraton people believe that it would damaged
the dance. Therefore, I wont blame every side.
In my opinion, we should start preventive action before we are going too far away from
our culture. We will do a serious campaign about culture and tradition, such as make more the
cultural events and every school should have at least a program that related to local culture,
like learn about native language or learn the local instrument. By touching the young
generation, we could keep our identity and prevent it from endangered. Modernization that
identical to western culture, may become review or example to make our nation become
develop. But, it doesnt mean we try to be like them. Because I believe that the young
generation that know their own culture will be the best investment of every nation forward.
I agree to one of article that write, It is often said that to annihilate a country does not
need any tanks, guns, or millions of soldiers. What is needed then to conquer a
country? The answer to the question is simple, that is, by making its young generation
or adolescents forget their culture(s).
