Part 2: Run Short-Circuit in Star

1. Run / Update Short-Circuit in Star to update the TCC Clipping Currents on TCC kA page
of devices with minimum (30 Cycle kA Short-Circuit Current in Standard page from
Study Case) and maximum (1/2 Cycle kA Short-Circuit Current in Standard page from
Study Case) bus fault currents.
2. Verify the updated clipping currents on TCC kA page of devices.

Part 3: Create Revision

Create a revision called Recommended from Base using RevControl pull-down menu and use
it as the selected revision for making the changes to represent your suggested settings.

Part 4: Protection and Coordination

Motor Protection
1. Select motor IM-1 on the one-line then press the Zone Viewer button to have the motor
zone selected.
2. Press Create button on Zone Viewer to make a Star view for this motor protection zone

3. Answer the following questions for above motor protection zone:

a. Is the motor properly protected during starting and running?
b. What settings need to be changed?
c. Is the motor feeder cable (CBL-IM-1) properly protected?
d. What is the minimum number of protected phase conductor?

Guidelines:
- Use the Combine Curves tool view.
- Set Overload Trip based on below rule from NEC 430.32(A)(1) for overload protection.
SF stands for Service Factor of motor and can be read from Nameplate page of motor
editor.

Below is the extract from Allen Bradley SMP-3 Overload relay manual for Full Load
Current (FLC) setting reference.

Motor stall time is designed for Class 20.

Bus and Cable Protection and Coordination

1. Select bus MCC-LV on the one-line then press the Zone Viewer button to have the bus
zone selected.
2. Create a Star view for bus MCC-LV protection zone as shown below.

Star Exercise 2B-R3

3. Answer the following questions for above bus and cable protection zone:
a. Is the bus properly protected for its continuous current rating?
b. Is CB-MCC properly coordinated with the MCC-LV feeder protective devices?
c. What settings need to be changed, if any?
d. Is the MCC feeder cable (CBL-MCC) properly protected?
Guidelines:
- Coordination needs to be checked for all bus feeder protective devices with the main
breaker.
- The Time Current Characteristics of breakers and fuses are considered as coordinated
when there is no overlap.

4. Create a Star view for LV-SWB bus protection zone.

5. Answer the following questions for above protection zone:

a. Is the bus properly protected for its continuous current rating?
b. Is the Main breaker properly coordinated with the feeder protective devices?
c. What settings need to be changed?
Guidelines:
- Coordination needs to be checked for all bus feeder protective devices with the main
breaker.
- The Time Current Characteristics of breakers and fuses are considered as coordinated
when there is no overlap.

Bus and Transformer Protection and Coordination

1. Select bus LV-SWB and TR transformer on one-line then press the Zone Viewer button
to have the motor zone selected
2. Select Create single Star View from Star View TCCs section in Zone Viewer and
press Create to make a Star view containing both of above transformer and downstream
bus protection zones as showed below.

3. Answer the following questions for above protection zones:

a. Is the transformer properly protected for its damage curve, inrush, and FLA?
b. Are the primary and secondary protective devices properly coordinated?
c. What settings need to be changed?
Guidelines:
- Long Time pickup of devices is set based on below rule from NEC 450.3 for
transformer protection

Coordination may be checked between primary and secondary side of transformer.

The Time Current Characteristics of relay and breaker is considered as coordinated when
the time gap or delay between the two is not less than 0.2 second.

Part 5: Run Sequence of Operation in Star

1. Run Sequence of Operation and apply 3-phase faults at different locations. Check the
followings:
a. Devices should flash in the expected coordinated sequence.
b. Review the Sequence Viewer to better understand the device operations.
c. View the normalized TCCs to view the fault currents and their position on the
trip curves for the protective devices for a particular fault.
2. What is the difference between short-circuit study results of Parts 4 and 5?

Part 6: Device Settings Report

1. Create the Device Settings Report from the one-line and created Star Views.
a. What is the difference between the two?
