---------------------------------------------------------------1) A The cove plate of a solar collector (L=1m and W=2m) is at 15 C, while ambient air at 10
C is in parallel flow over the plate with velocity 2 m/s. What is the rate of heat loss from the
plate?

2) Consider a rectangular fin that used to cool a motorcycle engine. The fin is 0.15 m long and
at a temperature of 250 C, while the motorcycle is moving at 80 km/hr. in air at 27 C. The
air is in parallel flow over both surfaces of the fin and turbulent flow conditions may be
assumed to exist throughout. Find the rate of heat removal per unit width of the fin.
[For turbulent Flow use the Correlation NuL = 0.037 Re4/.5Pr1/3]

3) A circular pipe of 25-mm outside diameter is placed in an air stream at 25C.The air moves
in cross flow over the pipe at 15 m/s while the outer surface of the pipe is maintained at
100C.What is the rate heat transfer from the pipe per unit length?. [C = 0.193, m= 0.168].

4) A tube bank uses an aligned arrangement of 10-mm diameter tubes with ST = SL= 20 mm.
There are 10 rows of tubes with 50 tubes in each row. Consider an applications for which cold
water flow through the tubes, maintaining the outer surface temperature at 27 C, while flue
gases at 425 C and velocity 5 m/s are in cross flow over the tubes. The properties of flue
gases may be approximated as those of air at 425C.What is the total rate of heat transfer per
unit length of the tube bank.[Correction Factor = 0.97 ,C=0.27 , m= 0.63].

the inner tube in parallel with the cold water, which flows in the annuals. Inner tube length was 1
m and diameter (9.5mm/8.6mm), Inlet and outlet hot water temperature are 80 oc and 62oc
respectively. Hot water volume flow rate was 2 liter /min .Inlet and outlet cold water temperature
are 20 oc and 56oc respectively.

a rate of 2 105 W/m3. One side of the plate is insulated while the other side is exposed to an
environment at 25C with a heat transfer coefficient of 44 W/m2C. Explain where in the plate
