What are the reasons for going to university?

Introduction
At one point or another in their high school lives, students
are faced with one big question: should they go to
university? Some students decide not to go. They might
think that higher education is not necessary for them or
that they have something more meaningful to do. Other
students decide to go to university. Although these students
all think that it is worth spending the next four years in
classrooms, the reasons why they think so might be
different. Students go to university for a variety of reasons:
academic interest, future career, or social life.

Another common reason for going to university is that a college
education often leads to a better career in the future. Many
companies often hire university graduates to fill positions that have
greater responsibility and higher pay such as managers. Furthermore,
for certain professions including doctors or lawyers, a university
degree is a basic requirement for specialised knowledge. In short,
students attend university because they want to acquire (=learn) the
knowledge and practical skills to bring them better employment

opportunities in the future.

Finally, for some students, making friends and enjoying an active
social life can be a sufficient reason to stay in school for four years. In
universities, students have the chance to meet people from different
backgrounds or countries. For example, they might be in the same
class with people who study part time or retirees who return to
university to complete their education. In addition, there are a
variety of clubs such as sports teams or hobby groups. Joining these
clubs allow students to spend time with others who share the same

interests. Thus, universities can be places to meet a diverse group of

people and build relationships with others.

Introduction
Millions of people around the world can speak English, or speak the language well.
English has become essential (=important) for communication between different

important) for building the foundation for good business and social relations.
Language barriers can be removed and communication gaps can be narrowed.
