Avid Application Manager is a small background app that Avid created to

alert users of their software of updates and other news. You'll And once
installed it launches each time you start up your computer. However many
users do not want background apps running and there is no need for the
Avid Application Manager to run for Pro Tools to work.
However there is currently no 'disable at startup' option, or a simple way to
stop it from launching each time to turn your computer on, however follow
these simple steps and you can control Avid Application Manager behaviour
in both Mac and Windows PC.

Thanks for this! Boy, between Adobe and Avid, my

Mac is being raped by these 'helper' applications,
which seem to exist only to constantly crash or
timeout. Avid app takes about 10 minutes to check for
updates, and I barely have any plug-ins, and have
fibre internet...so.... And Adobe's app (until the latest
update) deletes data o your hard drives...good times!

I have El Capitan 10.11.6, and once I managed to find my

Library folder (apparently now hidden in El Capitan), I went to
the LaunchAgents folder and didn't see this .plist file. But the
Avid Application Manager still launches at startupa window
doesn't open up or anything, but the icon is in the toolbar at
the top of my screen so the program is clearly running. How
can I keep it from doing this if the .plist file isn't in my
LaunchAgents folder?

Thanks. Yeah, there's something really terrible about this

program. Even after it's been loaded for quite a long time
(days), if I click the battery icon next to the clock it shows this
an an application using significant energy. What a terrible
design, it should be pretty minimalistic instead of using so
many system resources.

Thank you SO, SO MUCH! This program always overclocks

on startup (late 2011 MBP).

I asked an avid audio support person how to do this and their

response was similar but a bit simpler..... they said:

You can disable the application manager.

Go to:
/Library/LaunchAgents/
Move files below to a backup folder:
com.avid.applicationmanager.plist
com.avid.applicationmanagerhelper.plist
On restart the App Manager shouldn't launch.

Way more simple is copy paste this in your terminal

sudo defaults write
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.avid.ApplicationManager.plist
RunAtLoad -boolean false

Ah- yes. I was going to say you can use vi to

do it in place, but your command is even
quicker.

Super Helpful (especially since it's last update

the Applications Manager hard crashes on
startup and you can't even force quit it) Thanks!

So good tip!
It's been a very anoing app or just for me that I use an old
MacPro?
It uses a lot of cpu when it starts and doesn't stop. Any
restart of the pc and here goes again.

Really?! Weird. I have 0.5% of cpu used. Safari with

Pro tools expert page open 3.8% of cpu...

Reply Share
pablolach > MarcoBernardo 8 months ago

It can be using around 1/4 of my CPU when it

starts. Then it hangs around 2 more minutes
and then another extension called avid helper
comes in and it starts again using CPU for a
minute or so and only then shuts down. Really
anoing when restarting and trying to quickly
open protools.
I'm using mountain lion 10.8.5 and PTHD 12.4

Thx. I am running el cap 10.11.3 and at the final step do not

get a "replace" prompt so I just deleted the original plist file.
This week I was looking at replacing gui skins in Logic and
that process involved replacing a "resources" sub folder but I
also didn't get a "replace" prompt ? Is this normal behaviour
for el cap ?

if you do this in terminal, it will ask your password and

it's done, no need to copy, edit the plist files, delete
the old one, put the new, etc. past this - > sudo
defaults write
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.avid.ApplicationManager.plist
