ABSTRACT
This paper investigates the performance of a racing go-kart which usually runs on petrol
engine is made to run on electrical brushless DC traction motor (BLDC) with the help of
batteries connected in series to acquire the required potential difference to power up the
motor and to increase the efficiency of the battery output with the help of an 800 rpm
alternator and high grade solar (photovoltaic) cells according to requirement.

1. INTRODUCTION
Since the 19th century there has been a great importance in Automobile racing. There have
been many racing championships all over the world eg :- F1,GO-KARTING, BAJA,
MOTO RACING, etc. Since all the racing are carried on I.C engine basis there are many
drawbacks of it such as use of petrol, maintenance of engine timeto-time, change of
engine oil, change of engine parts, etc. Hence the working of I.C engine does not
contribute anything to ecosystem, instead it harms the ecosystem due to smoke pollution.
Due to research and development of various appliances there is been harm to ecosystem
such as depletion of ozone layer and global warming. Ultimately it is going to cause the
extension of human race a long time after. So to prevent this situation we must find
measures which are working effective. So here we have made some effective changes in a
GO-KART which is an important vehicle of automobile racing championships. The basic
change is that the GO-KART which usually runs on petrol engine in todays date is made
to run on battery operated DC traction motor having 2.7 HP, 24 volts, 35 amps
specification.

2. WORKING
Mainly the GO-KART which runs on petrol engine is modified to run on a DC traction
motor with 2.7 HP, 24 volts, 35 amps specification. This motor is capable of generating
high traction torque to run the automobile as per the required speed. The motor also
provide high starting torque at the time of starting the vehicle from stationary position to
running position. The power of motor is supplied to the rear shaft with the help of chain
and sprocket drive. The battery required to run this GO-KART are two 12-volts batteries
with current backup of 35 amps each, both connected in series.

Also to increase the current output of the battery and increase the efficiency of the battery
power supply an alternator and solar cells can also be use to charge the batteries when the
GO-KART is in working condition.

3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Both the batteries are connected in series and the negative terminal of the 1st battery is
connected to the negative terminal of the motor the positive terminal of 2nd battery is
connected to a 24 volt solenoid. The solenoid has 4 terminals.
Top terminal is connected to earth
Bottom terminal is connected to the positive terminal of motor
Left terminal is connected to the positive terminal of 2nd battery along with the

positive of linear variable potentiometer

Right terminal is connected to the negative if linear variable potentiometer

( NOTE :- linear variable potentiometer is used as an acceleration device in this GOKART )

4. PERFORMANCE
The performance goes very efficiently with desirable speed and also the rotational power
of shaft is utilizes to charge the batteries with the help of alternator. Also due to
availability of sunlight it can be used to generate electrical power to charge the batteries
with the help of solar (photovoltaic) cells and when the GO-KART is stationary the
batteries can be charged with the help of power supply plug and charging adapter.

5. RESULTS & DISCUSSION

It was resulted that by using electrical system in GO-KART instead of petrol engine it not
only gives better working efficiency but also reduce the cost, time and manual work.

It was also discussed that the four problems rising in GO-KART due to engine were
overcome by this electrical system.

Uncomfortable for person sitting on GO-KART due to HEATING of engine.

Uncomfortable for assembled parts due to continuous VIBRATION of engine.
Cost of FUEL or PETROL.
No contribution to ECOSYSTEM due to pollution created by engine.

6. CONCLUSION
It was concluded that ELECTRIC GO-KART have more ADVANTAGES and NO
DISADVANTAGES then PETROL GO-KART and also that electric system in GOKART produces a green and clean energy without creating POLLUTION that harms the
ECOSYSTEM.
