Known

People go to malls for numerous reasons. One of it is because of its


convenience. Malls are able to provide people a wide variety of stores as
well as shopping opportunities. It is also for having entertainment and leisure.
People nowadays, employees or students, have a tough time in work or
studies and going to malls has been one of their ways to relax and release
all the stress. Located in a tropical country and experiencing a very hot
weather, Filipinos often go to malls because they bring a refreshing ambiance,
enabling visitors to rest and enjoy at the same time. It is also a place to
bond with family and friends.
Im pretty sure that most people know what SM is. It is supervised by SM
Prime Holdings, Inc. and it is, by far, the largest shopping mall and retail
operator in the Philippines. It develops SM Supermalls with its famous SM
Department Store.
Like all things, this business did not start like magic or in a blink of an eye.
It was rooted from scratch and has developed through hard work. The owner,
Henry Sy, Sr. started his business with a shoe store called Shoe Mart. He
had to travel back and forth to New York and Manila for 40 hours via
propeller plane in order to get supplies. Little by little, his business grew and
became SM Department Store.
SM has been a part of the lives of many Filipinos and is constantly doing
so. Up until now, SM continuously expands their horizons not only the field of
retail and malls but also in banking, real estate, and tourism. They introduce
new and innovative ways to make every Filipinos life as comfortable as
possible.

Through the years, SM has been recognized for their excellent service and
quality of malls. None of this would happen without their careful planning and
marketing strategies.
Through the timely and effective implementation of marketing initiatives such
as sale events, and offering more novel products and services, SM aptly
addressed and met the expectations of clients. says Harley T. Sy, President
of SM Investments Corporation.
Jeffrey C. Lim, Executive VP of SM Prime also said, Our products are of fivestar quality and in prime locations, these are compelling value propositions
that we think continue to attract strong market reception. On our comparative
advantages, we can cite four factors and these are our capability to offer
innovative and integrated developments, the scale we have in terms of
product launches, the strong synergy we have with the other SM companies
and of course, the SM brand that we carry.
In 2010, SM Retail Group won their third Best of Best Award in the Retail
Asia-Pacific Top 500 Awards. The Best of the Best retailers have been
meticulously assessed and judged. As a Gold Awardee, SM is among the
Asia-Pacific retailers who have "retained their respective exalted position on
account of their business volume and market leadership says Steven HL
Goh, executive chairman of Retail Asia Publishing.
In the following years, they also bagged more awards such as;
Interbrand Best Retail Brands 2014, Best Environmental Responsibility Award,
Readers Digest 17th Annual Trusted Brands Survey - Platinum Trusted Brand
Award in the Shopping Center Category and the list goes on, some awards in
the past years werent even included.
All the citations and awards mentioned truly proves the notable performance
of SM and it is still thinking of new ways to attract more customers.

SMs best communication thrust is a combination of many aspects. People


know Weve got it all for you!, a strong slogan that is proven and tested
because they really have everything Filipinos need all in just one place:
shopping for groceries at the supermarket and for clothes at the department
store, eating at food outlets and restaurants, buying at a hardware store,
appliance store, furniture store, banks, currency exchange, salons and even
watch movies at the cinema.
They also made payment of utility bills and getting permits and documents
from government agencies much easier because they provide counters for
doing so. SM offers perks and services through their rewards program which
has over 4 million members.
Its branches are spread over not only in Metro Manila but also in provincial
areas, which makes it accessible to all people. It has over 50 branches in the
Philippines and is starting to grow globally with its 5 malls in China. Starting
this 2015 and the consecutive years, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is planning to
add 25 more malls. Its already in the bag. As promised, we will have 75
malls by 2018. Were very much on track Its all planned out, said Hans
Sy, president of SM Prime.
It has a vast resource of hardworking employees which continues to willingly
serve customers with a smile, good attitude, and a cheerful personality.
The buildings have been a great advantage for they encourage people to go
to SM malls through the continuous evolution of structural designs.
Renovations in several SM malls have been made to keep track of this
modern generation and the transition of time. The malls have changed their
design into contemporary, making it more classy and exclusive. There were
elegant and eye-catching signage, wallpaper, playful geometric patterns and
bold graphics. The good lighting adds color and gives more life to the malls
which make the people regularly visit them.

SM has paved its way to add more fashion merchandise with prestige brands
as well as designer items. They always make sure to have whats in in the
appliances, gadgets, toys and baby needs division. Another amazing thing that
happened is SMs partnership with foreign brands such as Forever 21, H&M,
Uniqlo and Cotton On in order to serve more customers, especially fashion
enthusiasts.
All of these truly prove how SM makes a big impact to its customers and
how it continues to entice them to go to their malls. Communication also
plays a big factor in making a business successful and well-known.
