The Contractor shall include in his prices for excavation:(a) Excavating in all types soil, grubbing up roots or drains.

SPECIFICATION CONT'D
All steel rod reinforcement is to comply with B.S. 4499 clean and
free from loose, rust or scale.
BLOCKWORK
The blocks generally shall be 450 x 225mm deep and of the
thicknesses stated and composed of 1 part cement to 6 parts
sand.
Mortar shall be 1 part cement to 6 parts sand to gives strength
equal to the strength of the blocks.
CARPENTRY AND JOINERY
The whole of the timber shall be well seasoned, of the best quality
obtainable, free from all defects and suitable for the purposes
for which it is to be used.
The prices for structural timber shall include for treatment with an
approved preservative used strictly in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
10 The prices for carpentry work shall include for the following:(1) All fixing, including plugging.

1 Flush doors shall be constructed in accordance with B.S. 459.

The prices for ironmongery shall include for all fittings and all
labours and for the supply of all matching screws.
METALWORK
The prices for fixing metal doors and windows are to include for
assembling building in lugs and pointing.
The prices for fiting louvre carriers are to include for fixing with
matching screws.
PLUMBING
The whole of the plumbing is to be carried out strictly in
accordance with the requirements of the Local Authority.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
The Contractor shall make all necessary applications and pay
all charges in connection herewith, to ensure that the connection
or connections of the electricity supply is effected in good time
so, as not to delay completion of the work. The net cost of all
fees and connection charges thus incurred will be added to the
contract sum.
PLASTER WORK
Sand for rending is to be river or pit complying with B.S. 1199
10 Internal and coat not less than 12mm thick or as described and
shall consist of one part of cement to four parts of sand by volume
and shall be finished fair and smooth with a good float.
GLAZING
11 All glass shall be free from flaws, waves, scratches and other
defects and shall be of uniform thickness.

The prices of painting and decorating shall include for the removal
of door and window, furniture, switch covers and the like before
preparatory processes are commenced and for re-fixing on
completion.

Bills of Quantities
The pricing, moneying out and totaling of these bills of
Quantities are to be in INK throughout and are to be in
Nigerian Currency. The bills of quantities shall not be used
for ordering materials. Any discrepancies found between the
quantities or descriptions in the Bills and those to be
ordered are to be reported to the Quantity Surveyor immediately.
Drawings
All drawings, tracings, photo prints, etc. are the sole
property of the Architect/Supervising Officer and must
be returned to him upon completion of Works.

The Contractor shall accurately set out the Works and include
for providing all pegs, templates, instruments and labour necessary
for so doing and as required by the Architect/Supervising
Officer for checking this Works.

Electricity
Allow for providing all temporary lighting and power for the
Works including that for use by special tradesmen and
sub-contractors; paying all fees and charges and providing all
necessary temporary mains and clearing away and making good
at completion.

Water
Allow for the construction of borehole to take care of all water
required for the Works including that for sub-contractors. The water is to be
clean, fresh water.
Allow for executing all temporary plumbing and paying all fees
and charges incurred in the connection and supply of the water for
building purposes and the removal of all temporary plumbing
on completion.
Temporary Works
The Contractor shall ensure that all temporary electrical, water
and other installations are executed in accordance with the
requirements of the Authorities concerned.
Temporary Fencing and Access Roads
Allow for any necessary roads, crossovers, gangways, gates,
entrances and the like required maintain and clear away
and make good.
Allow for adequate temporary security fencing to the perimeter
of site, maintain and clear away and make good.

Allow for providing sheds and workshops for the use of the
workmen on the site and maintaining and subsequently
dismantling and carting away on completion and allow for providing
and maintaining welfare and safety measures and amenities of a
suitable standard approved by the Architect/Supervising Officer
or required by the Authorities.

Opening up

Existing Installations
Allow for protection and maintaining all pipes, ducts and cable
met in excavations, for keeping all ditches gullies and channels
clear and unobstructed and for making good any damage caused to
public or private roads, paths, kerbs and drains and paying all
costs and charges incurred.
Temporary Stormwater Drainage
Allow for ensuring that the whole of the site is kept free from the
risk of Stormwater flooding and providing such temporary ditches,
gullies and the likes as may be necessary and for subsequently
back-filling such excavations and making good. Any damage arising
from non-compliance with this clause is to be made good at
the Contractors own expense.
Prevention of Nuisance
Allow for taking all necessary precautions with regard to the order
and method of execution of the work to avoid causing disturbance
or nuisance to the users and occupiers of existing buildings and
premises adjacent to the works and for complying with any directions
of the Architect/Supervising Officer in this respect.

Delays
The Contractor will be deemed to have made allowance for all
delays caused by difficulty in obtaining labour and materials or by
suspension of part of the whole of the works due to adverse
weather conditions.
Overtime and Completion
The whole of the Works are to be completed by the time stated in the
Contract and no extra will be allowed in respect of overtime
paid to achieve this.
Dismissal by Request
The Contractor shall, on the written request of the
Architect/Supervising Officer or his representative on the site
immediately dismiss from the Works any person employed by
him thereon who may, in the opinion of the Architect/Supervising
Officer be incompetent or misconduct himself and such
person shall not again be employed on the Works
without the written permission of the
Architect/Supervising Officer.
Imported Materials
Where materials are to be supplied from outside Nigeria the
cost of such materials C.I.F. Apapa Docks together with
landing charges, duty and other Government taxes will be set against
the P.C. or Provisional Sum included in the Bills of Quantities.
The Contractor will be required to collect and clear the materials from
Apapa Docks, handle, load and transport them to the site and will be
responsible for any loss or damage to the materials after they
are landed; and items for this included in the Bills of Quantities after
the relevant P.C. Sums.

Receipted vouchers for all articles for which prime cost amounts
are included in the Bills of Quantities must be produced at the
final settlement of accounts and the final certificate will not be
issued until such receipts have been produced.

Provisional Sums
The term Provisional sum in the Bills of Quantities indicates a
sum of money allowed to cover the cost of a portion of the Works,
the extent or nature of which is not know at the time of preparing
the contract documents, or which cannot be determined accurately
until the Works are executed.
Provide and erect a site board showing the site of the Contract,
names and addresses of the Consultants, Nominated Suppliers and
sub-contractors and such other information as my be required
by the Architect/Supervising Officer who shall approve the design
layout and colours of the board. Lettering shall be cut-out
plywood or plastic of an approved thickness, and shall be 100mm
high for the main title, and 50mm or 38mm high elsewhere.
The whole board shall be maintained in good condition, repainted
as necessary, and removed when no longer required.

A
The contractor shall note that payment for plants (other than
general purpose plants) shall be made with respect to the specific
requirement of each work trade as entrenched in the Bills of Quantities.
The contractor shall allow for providing and maintaining on site all
general purpose plants. A list of plants so adjudged shall be made
by the contractor and furnished to the Quantity Surveyor or other
persons(s) authorized to receive them before or at the
commencement of the works.
