Every class, group and person has that one clown, the guy or
girl who simply has way too many jokes up his sleeve and
whose wit always cracks everyone up, no one fails to name the
class clown when asked and people can fire away reasons for
being so damn funny in seconds, ranging from wit to nature. But
what about that one person who somehow never has any sense
of humour? That guy who doesnt find most things funny and is
always so blue. Why some people just lack that sense of humour
is a bit more complicated, but keeping it simple it is equally
important to know the causes of lack of humour.

First of all, Paranoia, in spite of ranking slightly low in the three

main categories, still holds a 28% chance. Paranoia arises from
biological or psychological reasons like schizophrenia and trust
issues from experiences of abandonment, for example, if a
partner were to break relationships then it would develop into a
sense of paranoia, keeping the mind wandering to prevent
recurrences and eventually puts an end to the interest and
ability to crack a joke.

Depression is a second but almost non-existent reason as to

why that person just cannot laugh. It is also relatively more
curable than paranoia, since it mainly arises from an illness.
Arising from grief of loss, illnesses that include fatigue and
Thyroxin related fluctuations in the body, and stress overload at
the work place; these have more treatment and just block the
purpose to laugh at a joke. For example, a smile is rarely ever
seen after a death of a loved one, kids growing up in rough
neighbourhoods sometimes just cannot deal with the crime and
death of people around them. In addition to this, humour might
just be lacking because of a serious culture, low tolerance for
noise, and /or people in general, which boils down to the
persons nature and personality.

Finally, the last of the three categories, one ranking with a

whopping 72% of the remaining chances of a lack in humour is
because of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) arising from more
delicate circumstances. Circumstances such as physical abuse
generally during childhood, survivors guilt from a calamity or
accident, witness to a crime, and many more scarring incidents.
To shed more light on PTSD based loss of humour recognition,
we can take the extreme example of the death of a suicide of a

young homosexual boy in reaction to locker room jokes that had

a homophobic theme, even though the same jokes were cracked
by many other boys with reference to many other homosexuals
in that very gym class. This either restricts the PTS Disorder
patients to boundaries beyond which their mind triggers the
traumatic incidents or it places a load on their ability and reason
to embrace or accept humour.

In conclusion, if more were aware of reasons why that one guy

would stick to the corner seat swimming in misery or why that
girl simply could not bring herself to even smile at the jokes with
which her friends were trying so hard to make her laugh, we
could help so many with time and patience (something friends
always have for each other) and crack open the most fun and
healthy form of happiness, laughter.
