The Gospel last July 26 2015 is John 6:1-15
REFLECTION
This scene of the loaves and the fish is something like an outdoor
prayer service. Or like the first open air Mass! Jesus feeds in the
ordinary among the people. God is intimately involved in our
lives, feeding and teaching. Bread from heaven means teaching
and feeding from heaven.
Three big lessons here: you are worthwhile in Gods eyes, always.
Everyone is fed. We approach the bread of life not because we are
saints, but because we need it. I really wonder should anything
keep us from this table if we are doing our best to live a good life.
Our offering is worth it. The leftovers on the shelf, the sardines
only the poor ate: the boy had no idea of where his offering would
lead. We never know where love will bear fruit.
God is with us in the ordinary the God of the table not the temple.
Where we are in life, he finds us, and feeds us most when we are
most empty. We have blocked people from the table of God for
too long.
And will feed us always more than enough love in the heart of
God for all. The meal of today has lasted, and the Eucharist is the
central prayer and activity of the church. We minister the bread of
life now to each other.
What happens at Mass we meet the Lord Jesus, in his death and
resurrection each Mass is our entering into this mystery of
prayer and love for the world. Of love in action from God, and

service of his people through all of us who gather together in
friendship with him.

The Gospel last August 2 2015 is John 6:24-35

REFLECTION

Jesus is a man for the I word and not in a boastful way. He

speaks of the bread in the desert, the manna which nourished the
people in their wanderings. He builds on their belief in a bread
from heaven, but now that he himself is the bread. The bread
gives life to the soul

Our Christian faith is centred on a person, not on a book. The

gospel is the book of life because it is the book of Jesus. Jesus is
our life because he comes from God. So we call this at times the
bread of heaven.

What more ordinary ways can heaven and earth be linked than in
the most ordinary of foods. In another country he might have said
he is the rice of life. it means that in the ordinary events of our

lives, God is very near in Jesus. He makes his home in us as the
bread we eat becomes part of us.

The same with love our faith links always human and divine love,
and human love of all sorts is a share in the divine life of love.
Can we really believe this? That the next time you really love your
child, your friend, your spouse or anyone in your love-life, you are
bringing them a bit of God!
That is one of the main reasons why we want to live in love. That
we link heaven and earth, divinity and humanity, Jesus and
ourselves,. Then the I of Jesus becomes the we of his earthly
body and presence now.

REFLECTION

Jesus had a big insight that people came to him because

God has something in them that draws them to his
message, to his personality and to his self-sacrificing
love.

People ask should we baptise children whose parents

dont go to Mass, should they make confirmations if they

are not practising any regular faith. There are many ways
of looking at this, and a central one is the belief that the
desire for God, for a sacrament or for prayer is given by
God. Pope Francis sees the openness of every child to this
love of God: Every child who is born is a gift of joy and of
hope, and every child who is baptised is a miracle of the
faith and a feast for the family of God.
