Hypothesis testing is a process that uses statistical analysis to

determine if the observed difference between two or more
variables is due to chance or true difference.
Alternative Hypothesis is a hypothesis conjecturing that the
difference exists between two or more variables.
Null Hypothesis is a hypothesis conjecturing that difference
does not exists between two or more variables.
Example:
A new treatment is at least as effective as an old treatment.
Researches hypothesized that the new treatment could even surpass
the performance of the old one. So they come up with the
following/hypotheses.
Hypothesis 1: The new treatment is more effective than old one.
Hypothesis 2: The new treatment does not surpass the old one.
Types or Error
Type 1 Error The error in rejecting the null hypothesis where in fact it
is true.
Type 2 Error The error in accepting the null hypothesis where in fact it
is false.
The following table. Illustrate these errors.

General Step in Hypothesis Testing

Step 1: Formulate null and alternative hypotheses
Step 2: Choose the Statistical test formula to be used.
Step 3: Specify the level of significance
Step 4: perform the statistical computation and determine the critical
value or p-value
Step 5: State the Conclusions.
State the null and alternative hypotheses.
1. The average weight of medical students is greater than 63.
2. The average cost of 21 inch television if P18, 050.
H: the average
H: the average weight of medical student is 63.2kgs.
