LAB EIGHT USING AUDITION

TASK: ABSTRACTING TEXT

Setting Up the Session

In a new session, import track 59 Dr. King from the

Soundscapes and Sound Materials CD.

Place Dr. King into track one at time zero. Listen to the clip.

Separate the first three phrases into clips. Discard the

remaining text.

The first clip should contain Now I believe the words of Dr.
King (yeah); this will be referred to below as Believe.

The second clip should contain If I helped somebody (yeah);

this will be referred to below as Help.

The third clip should contain As I travel on (yeah); this will

be referred to below as Travel.

The three clips as they should now look.

Processing Text

Make a unique copy of the first clip, Believe, then reverse

Process the File

Create a clip (Ctrl+K) for each of the separate smashes.

Lab Eight using Audition

Drag the extra material (the silences between the smashes)

into Track 2. Select them all (double click on an empty part of
track two), then select Remove Clips from the Edit menu.

Select all the clips in Track 1, then control-drag them to Track

2 to create unique regions.

Double click on the first clip to bring it into Edit View, select
Reverse from the Effects menu.

Return to Multitrack View. Double click on the next clip.

Since reverse was the last command you did, you should be
able to press F2 (Function key 2) to redo the reversal on this
clip. Do this for the remain clips in Track 2.

Five clips, and five unique copies of each clip in track two,
which are all reversed.

Drag one of the reversed clips into a clear track. Create a

unique copy of its forward version (it should be directly above
in Track 1), and place it immediately following the reversed
version

TASK: COMBINING SIMILAR TRANSFORMATIONSTRANSPOSITION

After importing the earlier file mixdown,

Make five unique copies of the mixdown, and place them in

successive tracks, all starting at time zero.

Select each clip, and Duplicate it (Edit menu, Clip Duplicate)

one time each (Repetitions 1 time). This will place a copy
butt-end against the previous one.

Create a unique and slowly evolving volume automation

envelope for each track.

Combining the same process with different settings to create a

dynamically varying gesture.

Changing One Element in the Loop

Select the fourth clip in the track, and make a unique copy of it
in the next track. Switch it with the clip you originally copied,
so that it replaces it in the loop.

Place this new clip into Edit View, and use Stretch from the
Effects menu to transpose it down one semitone (1 b). Make
sure Pitch Shift is selected.

The plug-in will calculate the expansion ratio. In my case, it
ended up being 125.674.

selected.
The two tracks should now have clips of identical lengths.
