ThislessonwillcenteraroundMyPlateandgettingthestudentsawareonwhatitis.Wewillthengointoeachsectionof
theMyPlateanddissusswhatkindsoffoodsgointoeachone.Iwillstartoffbyaskingthestudentswhathealthyfoods
theyknow.ThispartofthelessonwillbepresentedbyaPreziwithfoodgraphics.Studentswillnextbeabletoengage
inplacingfoodsintoaMyPlateontheSMARTBoardbydraggingthecorrectitemstothesectionsoftheplate.Nextthere
willbeavideoshowncalleda"ChooseMyPlate:ALyricalRendition"tomakesureeverystudentsgetstheconceptof
MyPlateandthefoodgroups.SincenoteverychildwillbeabouttothisontheSMARTBoard,eachstudentwillgeta
chancetouseaniPadtoputtogetherapuzzleonthe"MyPlatePuzzle"appthathastonsofhealthyfoodsforthemto
puttogether.

Prezi.IwillthengointomoredetailwithactivitywiththeSMARTBoardwherestudentswillgettodragtheelementsof
theMyPlateintothecorrectplacesontheplate.Iwillgoontoshowavideocalled"ChooseMyPlate:ALyricalRendition"

StudentswillbegiveniPadstoplayafunpuzzlegamerelatedtoMyPlate.TheAppiscalled"MyPlatePuzzles."Theywill
discusswhathealthyfoodstheyfoundwithinthegameaftertheyaredoneplayingthegame.

DifferentiatedInstruction
ELLstudentswillbeabletofollowalongwiththelabelsIwillprintoutandputontheobjectswewillbeusingfor
todayinSpanish.IwillalsohaveinstructionspulledupwithpicturesonthescreentobetterhelpmyELLstudents
whendoingtheactivities.
LDlearnerswillbeabletogoattheirownpacebecausetherewillbenorequirementsforthepuzzlestheyput
together.Iwillnotrequireallstudentstosharetheirwork,thatwillbeonavolunteerbases.Theywillalsoreceive
moreoneononetimewiththeteacher(me)whowillmakesuretheyareontherighttrack.
ECstudentswillhavetheoptioniftheygetdonewiththeactivitywithiPadtocreatetheirownMyPlate.Theywill
begivenapaperplateandcrayonssotheycandrawtheirownMyPlatewithallthehealthyfoodstheyliketoeat.
StudentsthatdidnotgetdonewiththeactivityintimewillbeabletomaketheirownMyPlateonapaper
platelaterintheweekintheirfreetimeiftheywishtodoso.
Closure

Thestudentswillsharewithclasswhathealthyfoodstheyhaveputtogetherandwhytheyarehealthy.Thiswillgiveus
atimewherewehaveafinaldiscussiononwhatmakesfoodhealthyandunhealthy.Theywillalsohaveachanceif
thereisenoughtimetomakeaMyPlateonapaperplateiftheydidnotgettobefore.

Thislessonwillhelpthechildrennotonlywithhowtoliveahealthylifethroughtheirfoodchoices,butalsohowtouse
somekeytechnology.TheonlydownfallIcanseewiththislessonisifthetechnologydoesnotworkthatdaywiththe
iPad,SMARTBoard,orthecomputerIwillbepresentingmyPrezion,thelessonwillbenothing.Ineedtomakesure
thereisabackupwaytopresentthislessonifthetechnologyneededstopsworking.
