DIY Recycled Paper Baskets

Step 1: Materials Needed

Paper - newspaper, old magazine, old calenders, brown paper etc,
Clothespin - 3-4,
Stapler
Step 2: Making Paper Strips
First of all we need to make lots of strips out of paper, making strips would vary with
the thickness of the paper you're using, for thick papers such as, old magazines,
old calenders etc cut 2 inches wide and 14 inches (at least) long paper strips, Fold
the papers into half 2 times to make the strips sturdy.
For newspaper I had to cut 3 inches wide strips and used all the length there was,
Folded the strip into half and then into even thirds to make sturdy strips. Make as
many paper strips as you want.
Step 3: The Bottom
Before starting the weave you should know that to make this basket you'll need to
use even number of strips. The number of strips should be 'proportional' even after
dividing them into half, for instance you can't use 6 strips because there will be 3
strips after dividing them into half.
For this basket I used 8 paper strips. 4 strips for each sides.
Take 2 folded strips and mark their center,
Place them in a cross making sure both centers touch,
Now start adding (weaving over and under) strips on both sides of the cross,
I made a 4 X 4 square for this basket.
You can add more strips if you want to, but make sure that the number of strips are even and equal on all sides.

Step 4: Preparing the Base

After weaving the bottom of the basket you'll need to prepare the base,
You can either staple or glue the 4 edges, otherwise the weaves would come off,
Use a marker or pencil to draw a square on the base as shown in the 2nd picture of
this step, this will be the base of the basket,
Now, fold the woven base along the marked part and release the fold.
Do the same for all 4 sides.

Step 5: The Corners

This is the tricky part. You have to start weaving from one side,
Divide the strips into half of any one side and start weaving with
the center strips (see picture), Weave over and under, starting
from the center strips of any one side, Now, go for the next corner
but make sure to pin the woven corner with a clothespin.
Weave all 4 corners similarly and pin at least 3 woven corners
otherwise they'll come off.

Step 6: Weaving the Basket

After making the corners of the basket rest of the weaving would
seem easy. Take the clothespin off one by one while weaving each
side, Simply weave over and under, Continue to weave over and
under until the basket reaches its required length or until an inch
remains on the shortest strip.

Step 7: Completing the Basket

Done weaving the basket? good, now lets complete the edge of the basket.
Starting from the shortest strips, hold the 2 strips (diagonally, as they are), Fold
the strip inside (which is over or outside), Now fold the other strip inside (which
is under), Turn around the basket as you'll need to see the inside, Weave the
second folded strip under the strip next to it (inside the basket). Continue to
fold the edge using this technique until it's done. Using this technique the edge
of the basket will be secure enough and you won't need to use glue. The
basket will turn out sturdy enough after it's complete. You can make baskets of
different sizes and colors depending on the size, number and pattern of the
strips.

Recycle Old Newspaper into Useful Basket [DIY Project]

You only need:
Recycled newspaper
Thin stick
Glue
Scissors
Round paper (as base)
First, to make newspaper strips. Cut (lengthwise) the newspaper into two. Then, place
the thin stick at one corner of the newspaper and start rolling it until it reaches the other
end. Secure the end with glue. Remove the stick from the strip. Then, get another
newspaper and repeat the process until you created a lot of newspaper strips.
Prepare the round paper. This serves as the base of the basket. Arrange about 8-9
strips of newspaper on the base and secure them with glue. After pasting the strips,
pour a bit of glue on top. Secure another round paper on top to ensure the strips are
absolutely intact to start weaving.
Get another strip. Glue its end on one of the strips on the base then, begin to weave.
The strip should alternatively go under and over the next strips. Make sure to knit the
strips tightly and well. Add more strips until you reach the desired height and shape of
the basket.
When you are finished, cut the excess strips. Then, firmly glue
the ends to the basket to avoid it from collapsing. When you
are satisfied with the stability of your basket, you can now put
things in it. You can also paint it with any desired color.
Now, you wont have to worry about masses of newspaper in
your house. They can be recycled and customized according
to your needs. Magazines can also be used.

How to Weave a Paper Basket

This
is a
stepbystep
tutorial on how to weave your very own basket out of paper
Step 1: Cutting out the pieces
Cut out 128 pieces of paper (5cm by 12.5 cm).
Step 2: Folding horizontally
Fold each piece of paper in half (horizontally).

Step 3: Folding horizontally again

Then fold each piece of paper in half (horizontally) once again.
Step 4: Folding vertically
Then fold each piece of paper again (vertically).
Step 5: Folding the ends
Once you've folded the piece of paper in half vertically, unfold it. then take each end of the paper and
fold them into the middle point.
Step 6: Pieces
Make sure you fold all 128 pieces.
Step 7: Interwinding
When connecting the pieces together, hold each one like in step 6. Put one piece into the others sides.
You're pieces should look like the ones shown.
Step 8: Interwinding #2
There should be 4 rows of 32.
Step 9: Final Line Product
This is how all 4 lines should end up looking like.
Step 10: Circles
Take the two ends of each lines and connect them like you have with every other pieces. Do this with all
4 lines.
Step 11: The Bottom Piece
Now take your bottom line and trace the inside.
Step 12: Cutting it out
Cut out the bottom thicker than the tracing.
Step 13: Cutting Lines
Cut out lines all around the bottom piece. Do not cut them off.
Step 14: Folding Up
Fold up all the pieces you have cut out.
Step 15: Attaching the bottom
Once all the pieces are folded up, glue one side. Then put the glue side against the bottom line. This
will make it connected.
Step 16: Second Bottom
Once again, cut out a bottom piece. Make this one the exact size of the bottom. Glue this bottom on top
of the other one. This will make the bottom sturdier.
Step 17: Connecting the lines
Using your left over paper, cut out 3 strips of paper. Once you have cut them all out, put glue all over
one side.
Step 18: Putting the strips inside
Put the side of the strips with glue on the lines. Make sure the strips are on the spaces between every 2
lines. This will connect all the lines together.
Step 19: The Handle
Cut out another strip of paper. Make this one shorter (not too short) and fatter than the other 3.
Step 20: Folding the handle
Fold the handle in half vertically.
Step 21: Folding the handle again
Fold the folded piece of paper in half (vertically) once again.
Step 22: Gluing
Glue all the fold together so it creates one singular strip. This will make the handle nice and sturdy.
Step 23: Attaching the handle
Put glue on both ends of the handle. Attach the glued parts of handle against both sides of the basket.
Step 24: Final Product

Paper Baskets
This Instructable shows how to make a paper basket that is approximately 4" x 4" x 4". I created this to use as an
Easter basket, but it will of course work for other purposes.
If you'd like to see this in video form, click the video above :)
You will need:
- 3 colors of paper (heavier weighted paper will work best - construction paper, cardstock, etc.)
- Glue (A glue gun works well for this)
Step 1: Cut the paper into strips
You'll need to cut the paper into 1" wide strips. You can measure the first one, then use it
as a pattern and trace it to create the others.
- Cut four 14" long pieces of the first color of paper.
- Cut four 14" long pieces of the second color.
- Cut five 18" long pieces of the third color.
-Set one of these aside to use as the handle for the basket.
If you don't have paper that is long enough, you can tape two pieces together.
Step 2: Arrange 4 pieces
Arrange the first two colors (14" pieces) in the pattern above.
Step 3: Weave in 4 pieces
Weave in 4 pieces (14" ones) horizontally so it looks like the picture above.
Step 4: Adjust everything
Adjust the pieces so the inner square is about 4" x 4", and the outer pieces are at least
4".
Step 5: Glue down each corner
Step 6: Fold all pieces inwards
Fold each piece inwards towards the center.
Step 7: Mark and fold the 18" pieces
On 4 of the 18" pieces, measure and make a mark every 4". Then fold the paper on each
mark.
Once you've done this, glue the ends together on each piece.
Step 8: Weave each of these 4 pieces in
Weave in each of these pieces to form the basket. Follow an under / over pattern with
the outside pieces. If the 1st piece goes under, the next piece should go over.
After this, the leftover paper at the top can be folded over (if long enough), or just
trimmed an glued to the side.
Step 9: Glue on the handle, and you're done!
Glue each side of the handle to the inside of the basket, and you're done! You've just
made a paper basket.

DIY Paper Baskets

Materials needed to make these paper baskets are:1) Paper (newspaper, brown paper, colored paper, magazine paper... any kind of paper)
2) Anti-cutter,
3) Scissor,
4) Glue
5) Scotch tape,
6) Cardboard or thick paper.

Step 1: Paper strips

I used brown paper strips to make the
baskets. At first, you have to cut the papers
into strips of 1.5 inch width. Then fold them
into half inch width and keep the length
about 12 inches or more. Make as many as
you can.

Step 2: Paper Basket - 1

First, take 16 strips and divide them into half.
Lay out 8 strips vertically and 8
strips horizontally as shown in the first
picture of this step. Tighten the weave
carefully to make sure that all the sides are
even. Now build up the sides. Take a strip
and go around the sides as shown in the
picture. Keep about half to 1 inch of the strip
to fold at the end. while folding the remaining
part of the strip use scotch tape or glue to make sure they don't come out. The
square paper basket is ready!

Step 3: Paper Basket - 2

You'll need cardboard or thick

paper to make a round figure (to make the base of the basket)
and of course, paper strips. Take 8 paper strips. At first take 2 strips and glue them at the middle, which
forms a cross. Now, do the same with the rest of the strips and make sure to glue them at the middle.
After laying all the 8 strips together they should look like a star (as shown in the picture). Now glue the
round cardboard plate at the middle of the star shape. Hold few of the remaining strips up, as shown in
the picture. Take another strip and circle around. After weaving the first strip you won't need to hold the
paper strips up as they will remain straight themselves. Keep weaving around the basket, but keep
about half to 1 inch of the strips at the end. Fold the remaining parts of the strips inside and glue them.

Step 4: Paper Basket - 3

To make this basket you'll need a round piece cut out from
cardboard and strips of 0.5 cm width. Use super glue to stick 12
strips with the round cardboard plate. Now hold few strips up as
shown in the picture. Take another strip and start weaving by
circling around. After weaving the first strip you won't need to hold
the paper strips up as they will remain straight themselves. Keep
weaving around the basket, but keep about half to 1 inch of the
strips at the end. Fold the remaining parts of the strips inside and glue them. You can use extra papers
to make borders to. This basket turns out really cute!
Step 5: Paper Basket - 4
Take even number of strips to make this basket, it
makes it easier. Lay out 4 strips (regular strips as
I've shown at the first step) vertically and 4 strips
horizontally. Tighten the weave carefully and make
sure the strips are even. I've shown the folding lines
in the first picture of this step. Fold up the strips of
any one side and start weaving by placing one strip
over the other (as shown in the second-1 picture of
this step). This kind of weaving will form a corner as
you can see in the second-2 picture. Continue weaving like this and after
few a steps it'll form a figure like the second-4 picture. You can fold the
remaining strips inside or cut them into smaller parts and then fold inside.
Use glue while folding , so that they don't come out.
These are the 5 easy and simple paper basket weaving. I'll be crafting
more paper baskets using different patterns very soon and try to add more
details in the crafting.
Step 6: Paper Basket - 5
To make this
basket you
can use all
the remaining
strips, so that
they don't get
wasted. Stick all the remaining strips together vertically with glue or scotch
tape.
Cut out an oval shape from cardboard or thick paper. Now take the strip
and glue it with the oval shaped cardboard plate (as shown in the picture).
Start coiling up carefully and continue gluing the strip until its finish. When the strip comes to an end
fold it inside and use glue to make sure it doesn't come out.
Decorative bowls from recycled paper
Step 1: Materials needed

You'll need shredded paper,

clear-drying glue, plastic wrap
and an item (like another bowl)
to use as a mold.
You'll also need access to
water. If you don't like using your hands, then you'll want a foam paintbrush for the
glue, which you can also use to paint your finished bowl (optional).
Step 2: Prepare your mold
Select an item to use as a mold for your new bowl. Wrap the outside completely in
plastic wrap.
Step 3: Prep your Shred
Put your shredded paper in a bowl and sprinkle with water to moisten. Don't use too
much water -- you just want the paper to be slightly damp so it adheres to the bowl
more easily.
You can grab a handful of random paper from your junk mail shredder or more
selectively shred paper of a specific color range.
Step 4: Forming the bowl
Put some glue in another bowl and mix well to dilute with water (3:1).
Coat your plastic-wrapped mold with glue.
Add a clump of shredded paper and smooth down with more diluted glue.
Cover the entire bowl with shreds of paper affixed randomly, stopping shy of the
bowl's lip.
Brush the paper with another coat of the diluted glue and let dry.
Glue-paper-glue two more times, letting dry between each layer.
Step 5: Unmold your bowl
Once your shreds are completely dry, remove your mold.
Gently remove the plastic wrap from the inside of your bowl.
Step 6: Finishing your bowl
You can keep your bowl edge "raw" or choose to trim it neatly. Thinner bowls will
trim more easily, but they are not very rigid.
Look for other interesting shapes to use as molds and experiment with paper colors.
You can paint a bowl with a raw edge by hanging it over a glass.

Homemade presents or gifts for someone special

1. Roll the paper using small stick

2. A bunch of paper stick ready(its
will look like as rattan)
3.Prepare the bottom of basket (in
star shape arrangement)
4.Bottom of the basket
5.Weave the wall of basket
6.Type of Weave (One up one down)

Below are the step by step on how we can reuse the newspaper to make souvenir or gifts to
friends and loved one.
Materials Needed:
1.Newspaper, magazines or papers
2.Scissors or knife
3.Paper Glue
4.Small rattan or stick
5.Wooden or rattan varnish
How to prepare the stick:
1.Cut newspaper into size which you want. It can as small as photo no.1. For me I choose A4 size. So I
cut the newspaper into A4 size paper.
2.Roll the paper so that it become as a stick (refer photo no.1&2) using small stick as a guide to get
small stick.Use glue at the end of the paper to stick the paper together. Take out the small stick from the
paper stick.
Note: The paper stick has 2 egde, one must bigger than other one so that we can joint it together.
3.Two type of sticks short (for base/bottom part) long stock (for weave).Long sticks we can produce by
joint 2 short sticks together using glue.
How to start weave (Bottom part)
1.Use always odd number of stick such as 7,9,11,13. I used 13 short stick for my basket.
2.Allocate 13 short sticks in star shape (refer picture 3). Use paper glue to stick them together.
3.Start to weave from bottom to top(wall of the basket & lastly the holder). There is many type of
weave, but I choosed easier one which one part on top and below (refer picture 6).
4. For bottom part, use 4-5 sticks weave together (its depends to how big the basket you want). For
wall, use 8-11sticks (depends on how tall you want too)
5.Lastly, make the holder by plait the stick together.
6.After finished (as picture 7), we can paint it using varnish. The basket will look like as made from
rattan instead of newspaper.
We also can make other things such as pencil holder, vase plate, basket with cover, vase and many
more.
