COLDS/FLU PREVENTION THROUGH VACCINATION

Project Elisha exists to assist and help in the wholistic development of

the children enrolled under the program. Health is one of the basic priorities
and as a means of securing that, Project Elisha places it focus on promoting
health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease. Project Elisha
believes that there will be no need for treatment when efforts are made to
prevent diseases before they occur.
One sponsorship project of Project Elisha is to give free Flu and
Pneumococcal vaccinations. The free vaccinations were held during
Saturdays and Sundays which spanned from the month of December until
the last week of February. Children and their parents, as well as some of the
Project Elisha staff came and availed of the free vaccination program.
The common cold and seasonal flu are caused by viruses which
commonly occur during cold weather. Every flu season is different, and
influenza infection can affect people differently. Even healthy people can get
very sick from the flu and spread it to others. Also, many symptoms occur
during a flu.
Flu/pneumococcal vaccines are not medicines for treatment. Vaccines
are composed of an agent that resembles a disease-causing micro-organism
and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins
or one of its surface proteins. When our bodies are exposed to these
vaccines, our bodies naturally cause antibodies to develop. These antibodies
then provide protection against infection as a very efficient and useful
method to prevent colds and flu.
As of March 2016, ______ Project Elisha children are protected from
colds and flu. They are now living better and healthier lives because of
vaccination program of Project Elisha
