The meal of bread and wine, The Last Supper, the Eucharist, is much more than

a farewell party, more than a religious rite and more than a religious obligation. Its a
unique spiritual event through which Christians experience His presence and during
which the redemption of humankind that He brought about by his life, death and
resurrection is re-enacted and renewed.
During the Eucharist we are called to be true and faithful disciples follow the
commandments of Jesus Christ. We are called to serve others as Jesus did - helping
the poor, lifting up the downtrodden, releasing captives, healing the sick, challenging the
causes of poverty and oppression, helping orphans and widows. This is the way to
extend His presence and love in the world - through unselfish service.
Thus, the Eucharist is a time of thanksgiving, as we thank God for the gift of new
life through the death of Jesus. (The word Eucharist comes from the Greek
word eucharistia, which means thanksgiving.) And it is also a time for hope, as we
remember the promise of Jesus that we will one day share this meal with him.
Foremost, the story encouraged us to remember the Death of Jesus Christ
through the bread that symbolized his body that was broken into pieces He took
bread and blessed it and broke it, and gave it to them saying, this is My Body, given for
you. and his blood that symbolized the remission of our sins Drink, all of you, of this;
For this is My Blood of the New Testament, shed for many, to the remission of sins.
Moreover, we were reminded on the value of humility. This was one virtue that
Jesus had shown of humbling ones self to other people. Even though Jesus knew
that he was the son of God, he still humbled Himself in front of his disciples. He
humbled Himself to be our redeemer. Just the same, at present times, humility is a
treasure that gradually vanishes in humanity. Bad competition arises just to attain selfglorification. Therein, we were reminded that God is the source of our strength,
resources and wisdom. He alone should be praised and glorified in all we do. The

scripture declares Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that
at the proper time he may exalt you.
The story also imparted the virtue of aspiring unity with God at the center and
the significance of serving one another. It is only when God is in the center that we
can achieve the progression and peace that our society needs. Being united also
means respecting each others opinions, personalities, viewpoints and differences, and
taking actions based on the welfare of everyone. A bible passage conveys, Bear with
each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds
them all together in perfect unity.
Herein, from the story of the Last Supper, we have realized the importance of
supporting capable leaders who will guide the people toward common good and
Godliness. In this point of time, we saw that we have leaders in our country who dont
really portray Jesus in theirselves. A good leader for us must inculcate the traits of
responsible, God-fearing leaders who will promote integrity, fight corruption, and
address the needs of the people. As a passage in Exodus states, But select capable
men from all the peoplemen who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain
and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
In relation to the story, we also realized that everyone of us must be a servant
for one another and for you to be a good leader, you must first be a good
follower. Jesus portray Himself as a servant during the time He washed the feet of His
disciples which means that Jesus wants us to be clean and free from sins. At present,
people tend to forget the true meaning of the Last Supper. We forget the symbols made
by Jesus Christ during that time. Jesus reminds us to look at ourselves and other
people so that we could take care of one another.

Lastly, we were reminded that everything we do must glorify God. Like

remembering all of His teachings through His son Jesus Christ. Worldly desires, societal
norms and other distractions can influence us in forgetting who God really is. We tend to
forget the real reason why Jesus died for us. Herein, we were encouraged to surrender
all our actions, all our words and all our thoughts to God. Our Creator is bigger than our
problems. He is the author of our lives and He alone knows what tomorrow holds. He
has the power to turn our misery into joy. We must constantly praise and worship God
for He alone deserves all glory and honour.
The passage might have initially appeared simple, but the analysis and synthesis
of Matthew 26:17-30 had been an extraordinary experience for each of us. We gained
interesting new perspectives and widened our understanding. Here forth, our group
aims to apply and carry each and every lesson imparted by the story of the Last Supper.
