Methodology

6.1

The following checks to be carried out before starting Pressure test.

6.1.1

Ensure that impulse lines are laid without undue stress on tubes. MOC of tubes,
Pipes & Fittings to be checked for correctness prior to installation.

6.1.2

Check that ferrules are correctly installed in each and every fitting with GONOGO
gauge.

6.1.3

Impulse lines shall be supported and slope maintained properly.

6.1.4

During and after Installation all the Tubes are to be properly cleaned by using
compressed air.

6.1.5

Check that all connections are done properly with GO-NOGO Gauge.

6.1.6

Ensure that instrument connected is isolated i.e. the manifold is disconnected from
the instrument.

6.1.7

Ensure that first process isolation valve is closed & the drain valves are closed

6.1.8

In differential pressure instruments ensure that equalizing valve is open.

6.2

Test Medium
The test medium shall be as per requirements of specification or unless specified
other wise.

6.3

Test Pressure
Ensure two pressure gauges with valid calibrated certificates are used within the
range of 1.5 times to 4 times of test pressure.
Instruments valid calibration, certificate & sticker on the gauge shall be verified.
The Test Pressure shall be 1.5 times of the maximum working Pressure in case of
Hydro Test or the Test pressure of the associated process line or vessel, whichever
is greater, as specified in. In case of pneumatic test, Test pressure shall be 1.1
times.

6.4

Testing Procedure

6.4.1

Prior to filling the line with test medium, the line shall be inspected for fabrication
and erection completeness and satisfactory test preparation as per clause 5.1 of
this procedure.

6.4.2

All Quality records pertaining to the line shall be prepared and all these signed off
records are to be compiled in a test pack. This includes

6.4.3

Line History Sheet (Weld clearance reports), EPCMD-2-QM00-FMT-PP-002 (if

applicable)

Line clearance for Pressure test, report EPCMD-2-QM00-FMT-CI-016.

PMI to be completed before hydro test.

Internal cleanliness / Flushing of the Pipeline, Form EPCMD-2QM-00-FMT-CI016.

Test medium shall be checked for chloride content, before hydro test.

Gauge calibration reports.

Hydro test report EPCMD-2-QM00-FMT-CI-016

After verifying completeness of all above applicable records line shall be cleared for
Pressure test.

6.4.4

Liquid Test medium if applicable shall be introduced into the line at low point to
avoid air pocket formation. Vents at high points shall be left open and not closed
until clean Test medium flow from the out let.

6.4.5

After closing all vent and drain points Pressurize the line to specified test pressure
and hold for a minimum period of 30 minutes for Hydro test, 10 minutes for
Pneumatic Test as specified in Specification or other wise hold until all joints /
connections are inspected for leaks, whichever is higher.

6.4.6

If leaks are observed in the line, mark these leaks and depressurize the line.

6.4.7

Before starting weld repairs, ensure that the lines shall be drained properly and
weld repairs have been carried out with approved weld repair procedure. If any
such repairs have been carried out, that line shall be Re-pressure tested and
documented.

6.4.8

Depressurization of the line shall be carried out in a controlled manner.

Instantaneous release of pressure is not permitted. These lines are to be drained
out and air flushed after testing.

6.4.9

In case of Test medium is Air / Nitrogen, flushing is not required unless specified
otherwise.
