Obsolescence of Mark VI Control Panel Controller Cards

1. Abstract
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to notify
customers of the obsolescence of the
IS215UCVFH# (UCVF), IS215UCVEH# (UCVE),
IS215UCVDH# (UCVD), and IS215UCVBH#
(UCVB) controllers for Mark VI Control systems,
and to advise them of the available options for
maintenance of the control system.

2. Serviceable Units
All Gas Turbines with Mark VI Control Panel

3. Description
The manufacturer of the processor chip has
announced the end-of-life of this component,
and as a result, the manufacturer of the
IS215UCVFH# (UCVF), IS215UCVEH# (UCVE),
IS215UCVDH# (UCVD), and IS215UCVBH#
(UCVB) controller cards has announced the
end-of-life of these controllers. There is no
opportunity for a last time buy.

4. Inspection and Test

To avoid delay should replacement of a UCVF,
UCVE, UCVD, or UCVB controller card become
necessary, determination of the ability of their
system software (runtime and toolbox) to
support the UCVG card and completion of an
eTCSS upgrade if necessary is recommended.

The minimum eTCSS revisions capable of

supporting the UCVG card without a software
upgrade are:
V01.03.08C SP12, containing Mark VI Runtime V03.06.02C and Toolbox V11.02.09C
V02.02.04C SP9, containing Mark VI Runtime V04.05.00C and Toolbox V11.02.09C
V03.02.05C SP8, containing Mark VI Runtime V05.05.02C and Toolbox V11.02.09C
V04.01.03C SP1, containing Mark VI Runtime V05.05.02C and Toolbox V11.02.09C

5. Modification
In the event of a controller failure, the
customer will be required to substitute with
IS215UCVGH1A (UCVG) cards in all controllers
in the system.
Under normal conditions, failure of a controller
requires the replacement of a single controller
card in the affected rack and takes about one
(1) hour. However, in the event of a failure
involving one of these end-of-life cards, all the
controllers in the system must be replaced as
a set since the UCVG controller is not
compatible with the older UCVF, UCVE, UCVD,
or UCVB controllers. A TMR system contains
three controller cards, while a simplex system
has one.

Customers with multiple Mark VI control

systems can, if desired, continue to use
existing stocks of spare cards to maintain
similar systems, or use controllers removed
from an upgraded system as spares for their
other systems using the same type of
controller.

6. Recommendations
Customers should prepare to upgrade for
UCVG controllers at their earliest convenience.
This preparation must be done while the
turbine is off line. It requires about two (2)
hours and will avoid additional delays in a
future controller card replacement. The
preparation activities include changing the
M6B configuration file (as per GE drawing
336A7119BM). Please contact us as paragraph
9 to obtain the procedure.

b) Manpower
Only controller card substitution: 1 System Engineer for 1 hour
Please note that the Mark VI control will need
to be shut down to implement this change
and that the anticipated time for software
upgrade alone is approximately 2 hours per
unit.

11. Glossary of Terms

Compliance Category
The category column of the header identifies
the severity of the Service Bulletin as Indicated
below:
O Optional - Identifies product improvements
that may be beneficial to some but not
necessarily all Customers. GE Oil & Gas
recommends
implementation
at
the
Customers discretion or convenience.
R Routine - Identifies product improvements or
inspections that primarily enhance product life
and reduce life-cycle maintenance costs. GE
Oil & Gas recommends implementation in
accordance with the Timing Code for the
Service Bulletin, which is generally during
routine, scheduled maintenance.
C Campaign - Identifies product improvements
or inspections that primarily enhance product
reliability. GE Oil & Gas recommends
implementation in accordance with the Timing
Code for the Service Bulletin, which is
generally at the next scheduled or
unscheduled maintenance. Implementation
may also be required prior to a specific
operating time or cycle limit. Failure to
implement in accordance with the Service
Bulletin Timing Code could result in forced
engine outage and/or engine component
damage.
A Alert - Identifies product improvements or
inspections to ensure product safety and/or
enhance product reliability. GE Oil & Gas
recommends immediate action by the
customer
to
plan
and
schedule
implementation in accordance with the Timing
Code for the Service Bulletin, which is
generally at the first opportunity during
scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
Implementation may also be required prior to
a specific operating time or cycle limit. Failure
to implement in accordance with the Service
Bulletin Timing Code could result in a forced
engine outage, engine damage, facility
damage, and/or injury to personnel.

Compliance Level
The compliance level column indicates the GE
Oil
&
Gas
recommendation
for
implementation of the Service Bulletin. The
compliance levels are as follows:
F FIELD - Service Bulletins must be
implemented by trained on-site maintenance
personnel or a GE Oil & Gas Service
Representative. (These Service Bulletins may
also be implemented in a service shop.)
F/D FIELD/DEPOT - This combination of codes
indicates that action may be required both in
the field (F) and in a service shop (D). An
example would be an external modification to
an accessory that can only be performed
during an overhaul. The accessory may be
replaced with a modified component by onsite maintenance personnel. The removed
component would then be shipped to the
service shop for modification.
D DEPOT - Work must be performed by a
qualified service shop.
Timing Codes
The timing code column indicates the GE Oil &
Gas recommendation for when to implement
the Service Bulletin. The timing codes are
listed below:
1 Prior to start-up/engine operation
2 At the first opportunity (the next periodic
inspection or shutdown at the latest)
3 At the first opportunity (prior to the
component life limit)
4 At the first exposure of the module
5 At component part exposure
6 At component part repair or replacement
7 Optional
8 At the next depot visit
