Background of the study

The Philippines has the highest usage rates of methamphetamines in
Southeast Asia locally the drugs recalled shabu. Drug dependency or
chemical dependency is serious problem that the Philippines is facing right
now and one of solution or finding best way to forget that chemicals is finding
a good drug rehabilitation.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the construction of more
rehabilitation centers in each cities in the Philippines to a accommodate
thousands of drug dependents who have surrender to authorities. According to
the department of health there is a total of 45 rehabilitation centers private &
government owned in the Philippines, the DDB said there are so far 18
government-owned and 27 private drug rehabilitation centers accredited with
DOH and there is only two recognize Drug Rehabilitation Center in NCR
This drug rehabilitation center is far from Valenzuela and has a lacks of
facilities that could help the drug dependent patients to the healing process,

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Tittle: BUILDING FOR EVERYONE: A UNIVERSAL DESIGN
Topic: Horizontal circulation

Synopsis:
Horizontal circulation in a building may comprise access routes through open
plan areas, walkways, corridors and lobbies. The overall arrangement of access routes
should be logical, understandable, usable, and as direct as possible in terms of
providing access to key facilities. Travel distance should be minimized, although this
of course will depend on the nature and size of the building. Well-designed building
layouts, with clear circulation routes that are easy to follow benefit everybody. The
width of walkways should follow the guidance for corridors below. However. It is

likely in much circumstance that a greater width will be required in order to

accommodate the large number of people expected to use them.
Critique and application:
The study shows that designing a horizontal circulation make the building
more accessible and easier for the users to access with different facilities that it can
minimized the travel distance in a building and it can give clear circulation that
would benefit all the everybody, and it can accommodate more user with the wide
walkways.

Title: HEALING GARDEN

Topic: Harmony with the nature site

Author: Marcus, Clare Cooper
Synopsis:
All human activities take place in some environment, and so do the biological,
Psychological and social processes carried along in those activities. Yet, in the
evolution of modern medicine and medical facilities, the role of the environment in
health care has in important respects been neglected. Over recent decades, however,
medical professionals, environmental psychologists, landscape architects, and others
have insistently posed questions about the costs incurred with a view of the healthcare environment that separates process from place. They have asked how the design
of health-care environments might contribute to better outcomes for patients, visitors,

and sta. Many have engaged together in an iterative process of design research
suggests modications to earlier conceptions of how health-care environments should
be shaped, opening the way for design renements that, treated as hypotheses, help
guide further research.
Critique and application:
This article study about the therapeutic role of gardens and their place as part
of a restorative health care environment it suggest that building should have a
relationship to the environment that specific location, micro climate, and ecological
context. Built environment should support, maintain, and even enhance the nature and
the site

Title: THE PHILIPPINES HAS THE HIGHEST RATE OF SHABU USE IN EAST
ASIA

By: Amita legaspi
Synopsis:
In the Philippines there at 691,483 drug pushers and drug dependents have
surrendered to police in metro manila and since the government started its war on
drugs.

The Philippines has the highest abuse rate for methamphetamine

hydrochloride, or shabu, in East Asia, according to the latest United Nations World
Drug Report. The state department also disclosed that 2.1 percent of Filipinos aged 16
to 64 were using shabu, and domestic consumption of methamphetamine and
marijuana continued to be the main drug threats in the Philippines. Thats why
president Rodrigo Duterte plan to establish rehabilitation centers in different regions
throughout the country, the rehabilitation centers will be set up for drug users who

would voluntarily surrender and they also said that The campaign against drugs is also
supported by the Communist Party of the Philippines and different local government
units Known for his active campaign against illegal drugs, President Rodrigo Duterte
expressed his intentions to set up regional rehabilitation centres across the country.
According to reports, this rehabilitation center will particularly be for those drug users
who voluntarily turn themselves in to authorities.

Critique and application:

This article gives information to what the situation in terms of drug addiction
in the country this data brings an additional significance to the construction and
development of a new drug rehabilitation center in the country and adds aide to what
kind of people the center will focus on healing

Title: Comfortable Low Energy Architecture

Author: Yzad-Iran
Reference: http/: www. New-learn.info

Synopsis:
Based on the article Passive Cooling involves designing buildings for cooling
load avoidance. Design strategies that minimize the need for mechanical cooling
system include proper window placement and day lighting design, selection of
appropriate glazing for windows and skylights, proper shading of glass when heat
gains are not desired, use of light colored materials for the building envelope and roof,
careful siting and orientation decisions and good landscaping design. Install fixed
shading devices, using correctly sized overhangs or porches, or design the building to
be self-shading. Fixed shading devices, which are design into a building, will shade

windows throughout the solar cycle. Plant trees or bushes to shade the windows at the
right time of day and season. Deciduous vegetation is often an attractive and
inexpensive form of shading, because it follows the local seasons, not the solar
calendar. Design the building to take advantage of natural ventilation. Natural
ventilation uses the passive stack effect and pressure differentials to bring fresh,
cooling air through a building without mechanical systems.

Critique and application:

In this article, Passive Cooling showcased terms, definitions and ideas on how
to design a building utilizing passive cooling. The idea of the author can be my
reference it merely explains all principles that can be used in order to create a
perfectly designed building that will use low energy. Day light is not only used to
meet lighting requirements for particular task but also create rich luminous qualities
patients with nature, and support healing and therapeutic approaches.

Environment
Author: Catherine Ryan
Reference:http://www.terrapinbrightgreen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/14Patterns-of-Biophilic-Design-Terrapin-2014p.pdf
Synopsis:
Biophilic design can reduce stress, enhance creativity and clarity of thought,
improve our well-being and expedite healing; as the world population continues to
urbanize these qualities are ever more important. Theorists, research scientists, and
design practitioners have been working for decades to define aspects of nature that
most impact our satisfaction with the built environment. 14 Patterns of Biophilic
Design articulates the relationships between nature, human biology and the design of
the built environment so that we may experience the human benefits of biophilia in

our design applications. Biophilia in Context looks as the evolution of biophilic

design in architecture and planning and presents a framework for relating the human
biological science and nature. Design Considerations explores a sampling of factors
that may influence biophilic design decisions to bring greater clarity to why some
interventions are replicable and why others may not be. The Patterns lays out a series
of tools for understanding design opportunities, including the roots of the science
behind each pattern, then metrics, strategies and considerations for how to use each
pattern. This paper moves from research on biophilic responses to design application
as a way to effectively enhance health and well-being for individuals and society.

Critique and application:

In this article the 14 patterns of biophilic design can apply in an urban area, bringing
the nature inside the building. The idea of the author may help the patients to recover
fast with the help of nature. It show the relationship between nature and human
biology. It can reduce stress in every drug dependents inside the drug rehabilitation
center and can enhance their creativity with the help of biophilic design. This
principle will be effective in the drug rehabilitation center this will satisfy all the
patients inside the rehabilitation center.
HYPOTHESIS
A Drug rehabilitation center located in Valenzuela City will meet the needs of
the drug dependents and will create a harmony and therapeutic environment that is
different from other existing drug rehabilitation center. Integrating architecture with
the nature could give a big impact for therapeutic center. A building that lessens
energy consumption, by using the methods of passive cooling, proper building
orientation, vegetation, natural lighting and energy saving building materials. This
also serve as a new way of designing a better therapeutic center having low energy
consumption facilities.

RESEARCH FOCUS
The Drug Rehabilitation center will focus on Biophilic Design in which refers
to the design of buildings and spaces based on nature, which will be effective for the
patients. It can be applied in a variety of contexts allowing growth of both people and
environment. Human psychology clearly benefits from contact with nature, and
inviting nature into our buildings is the ideal way to insure the both the continuation of our
modern lifestyle and assuagement our more primitive needs.

Basic elements of bioclimatic

design are passive cooling technology which are incorporated onto buildings and
utilize environmental sources.
