Chapter 12 - Introduction to Quadratic Functions Assessment Plan

Assessments can be thought of as an orienting and tracking system for student learning success
(Stiggins, 12). If a student gets off course it is the teachers job to redirect them, to redirect their
learning. The student relies on classroom assessments to know where they are at the start, track
themselves as they travel toward academic success, and understand when they have arrived.

Entry Level (1)

Chapter 12 Pre-Test
Implementing a pre test before the unit of study will allow me to see what students already know.
It allows me to see which prior knowledge skills I can count with and which skills I may need to
review a bit in order to ensure academic success in the unit for each student, it allows me to see
what students dont know before hand and lets me tailor my teaching according to their needs. A
pre test also allows me to differentiate for students and teach at their point of need.
Daily Warm Ups
Having a daily warm up before each new lesson throughout the unit allows me to get those prior
knowledge skills brushed up that students will need for that unit on that particular day. It also
gets students into the math zone, focused, and gets them to start thinking math in order to be
more successful for the lesson.
Formative (4)
Quiz section 12.1-12.2 (Quadratic Functions, Standard Form, Linear Functions)
Quiz section 12.3-12.4 (Domain, Range, Zeros, Intercepts, Factored Form)
Quiz section 12.5-12.6 (Vertex, Vertex Form)
I have decided to do quizzes after every 2 lessons for this particular unit. Quizzes allow a
checkpoint along the way for both teachers and students. It allows students to monitor their
progress, and correct any mistakes or misconceptions for when they take the summative
assessment. This is a time for practice and learning as it is supporting their learning by showing
them where they stand in the class, by tracking themselves as they travel toward academic
success.
Discourse/Questioning - During lecture
Discourse, or the way ideas are exchanged in verbal counterpoint, is central to what students
learn about in a mathematics classroom. The teacher initiates discourse by posing questions that
engage and challenge student's thinking throughout lecture. Questioning keeps students
interested and engaged in the lecture, allows me to find out if my students are paying attention,
and allows me to gain insight on if my students are learning what is being discussed in class.

Exit Slips - Non Quiz days.

Exit slips allows the teacher to see if the students reached the learning goals set out for the
particular lesson. It allows us to assess our students to gather information about
their achievement. This information then helps us make instructional decisions to enhance
student learning and motivate students by keeping them in touch with their learning progress.
Socrative - Quadratic Key Characteristics/Absolute Max/Min
Socrative will be a digital assessment strategy that will be used in class for teacher to see if
students recognize key characteristics when graphing quadratics. Socrative emails results to the
teacher on each individual student (or team) with their response. Its main purpose is to gather
information about students achievement and bases off the results make instrucitonal decision on
whether to proceed or reteach in order to enhance student learning.

Summative (2)
Kahoots - Quadratic Functions Review
Kahoots will be a digital assessment strategy that will be used in class to review of the whole
unit. It is a fun, interactive way to get students involved and excited. The purpose of this
assessment is to inform students on key topics and so they can review. Kahoots provides teaches
with a summary at the end of each question of the percentage of students that answered correctly,
wrong, that way, we can attack misconceptions and review as a class in preparation of the end of
the chapter test.
Chapter 12 Post Test
A post test will be issued at the end of the unit, before the chapter test. The post test is another
form of review for the chapter test. More importantly, it allows students to see where they ave
grown throughout the unit. As teachers, it also allows us to see what the students didnt know,
and what they now know.
Chapter 12 End of Chapter Test
Last in this unit is the end of chapter summative assessment. Students had the chance to practice,
learn, and correct their mistakes with the various assessments strategies implemented throughout
the unit. The end of the chapter test shall hopefully reflect success and show students have
understood and mastered all of our learning goals and objectives that were set out.
