Chapter 1: Overview

SE 300 Ultra Hardware

The SE 300 is an inline solder paste inspection system that inspects solder pads intended for
passive components, Integrated Circuits (ICs), Quad Flat Pack (QFPs), and Ball Grid Arrays
(BGAs). The SE 300 prevents production problems on screen-printed panels by intercepting
defective prints before components are placed on the board. Because of its accuracy and
repeatability, the SE 300 also can help to establish process tolerances.
The SE 300 system contains the components shown in the following figures and described in
Hardware Components on page 5.

SPC Chart Wizard

The SPC Chart Wizard enables graphical selection of features used to collect and analyze data
for a chart. The site level determines the level of detail of the panel area from which features
are selected.

Panel Level: All features on the entire panel are used.

Board Level: Features are selected by board.

Location Level: The selected defect is checked within with selected location or locations.

Feature Level: The selected defect is checked within the selected feature or features.

When adding C-Charts, Trend Charts, U-Charts, and X-Bar Charts, a SRFF file must be open to
create charts for board, location, and feature-specific data. Charts with panel-level data remain
after closing the SRFF file and opening a new SRFF file. A height histogram chart is available
by default.
Board, location, and feature-level charts display only when the SRFF file to which they were
added is open. Panel-level charts are available for all SRFF files.
Up to 20 charts may be added to each SRFF file. A total of up to 2000 sites (features, locations,
boards) may be selected for all charts.

Chapter 3: Working with Charts

C-Chart
C-charts plot the actual number of failures (defects) per panel, board, or location over a
specified time interval or number of panels.
Use the C-chart to track the number of defects found at the selected site or sites. Increasing
values on the C-chart indicate that the process is moving out of tolerance and toward an out of
control condition. The C-chart is preferred over the U-chart when the number of selected
features does not change.

Trend Chart
Trend charts show measurement data taken over time. They can display trends by average,
range, or standard deviation over the features included in the site selection. Trend charts can
show measurement data taken over the most recent number of panels or over a specified
period.
Use the Trend chart to monitor the inspection process for trends toward the tolerance values.
Trend charts are similar to X-bar charts since they graph a measured variable over a specified
period.

Chapter 3: Working with Charts

U-Chart
The U-chart plots the percentage of defects for selected sites, such as a paste defect, over a
specified period.
Like the C chart, the U-chart tracks changes in the defects found over time. The difference
between the two is that the U-chart shows results as a percentage of the set of features.
Increasing values on the U-chart indicate that the process is moving out of tolerance and
toward an out of control condition.
The U-chart is preferred over the C-chart when the number of features changes. For example,
comparing the number of panel-level defects between two different panels is easier with the
U-chart because the U-chart is scaled to the number possible features on each panel.
One point on a U-chart represents the average defect percentage on each panel, board, or
location in the subgroup. For example, if there are ten features in a subgroup and an average
of one defect in the subgroup, the U value is 10.0. This value represents an average of 10
percent defects for each panel, board, or location in the subgroup.

X-Bar Chart
X-bar charts plot the average measurements (X-bar) that indicate the trend of the process.
Control limits are calculated and displayed as horizontal bars on the chart. When the
measurements remain within the control limits, the process is considered to be in control.
Use X-bar charts to monitor a process. These charts provide a visual indication of when a
process in control and also show when a process is on the verge of going out of control. The
control limits are calculated from the data and are shown by the red horizontal lines on the
chart.
