CHURCH (Bride)
This image in our bulletin just scratches the surface.
Here are some things to think about as we come to
worship today; we live in a world that has a good
deal of focus on the individual, the self. While there
is personal worship to be sure, when we gather as
the Body of Christ, the Church, we are not several
hundred individuals each worshiping God solo. We
worship as individuals in the body of Christ; we are
the Church. Our worship is corporate. That is why
online worship does not replace corporate worship,
though it is a wonderful help when people are not able
to attend worship for various reasons. Second, in the
individualistic world, it is easy to adopt the God and
me or the me and Jesus aspect i.e. I go to God and God
talks to me without any understanding or reference to
the Trinitarian God we worship. Because of the cross,
we are people who do not go directly to God the Father.
Jesus, the Son, and his Father commune perfectly. We
go to the Father, through the Son, in the power of the
Holy Spirit. The Son gives glory to the Father and the
Father gives glory to the Son as we learn in Scripture.
Through God the Holy Spirit, we the Church are able to
enter into the ongoing communion between God the
Father and God the Son. All the persons of the Trinity
are involved in our worship, one God eternally, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit.
