Updating LCD Flat Panel OITS Software

It is now possible to update the graphical user interface files for the centrifugal OITS LCD flat panel
touch screen. This upgrade applies only to the 14 and 15 LCD displays used on WSC, WDC, WMC,
WCC, HSC and TSC chillers. This upgrade does not apply, and can not be used with the 10 LCD panel
that uses the 3.5 floppy drive.
What Is Needed?
Required Hardware Items
USB Flash Drive
USB or PS2 Keyboard
Optional Hardware Items
USB or PS2 Mouse
Software Items
The OITS 2.04.01 Upgrade file (File name will change with future releases).
The .csv point mapping file for the installed MicroTechII controller code. It is
recommended to install the latest revision of the controller code when upgrading
the OITS software.
The keyboard will be needed to aid in the navigation and gaining access to the Windows
Embedded operating system. The keyboard will be required to be a Windows capable keyboard. This
means that it will have dedicated keys for accessing the Windows Task Bar and Start Menu functions.
If a USB version is used the operating system will automatically recognize the keyboard. If a PS2 version
keyboard is used then the OITS computer will require restarting to recognize the keyboard.
The mouse is optional and if used will assist with the accurate navigation of the operating system.
Since there are only two USB ports on the OITS computer they need to be used wisely. Using a USB
mouse and keyboard is not a good choice as there will be no USB port available for the flash drive. Good
use of input hardware would be to use a USB keyboard and a PS2 mouse or just a USB keyboard. Other
options exist but wise use of the USB ports is necessary. It is not recommended to add external USB
hubs as corruption of the USB driver within the operating system could occur and create difficulty in
future use of the onboard USB ports.
Extracting The Software

2005 McQuay International

Once the file is downloaded it must be extracted to a PC or notebook computer. The self
extracting file will place the necessary upgrade files in the C:\Micro II\Centrifugal\OITS
2_04_01 Folder.
There will be three files extracted. One will be 2_04_01.bat another will be 20401.exe
and the third will be directions similar to this bulletin.

Copy the 2_04_01.bat and 20401.exe files to the root directory of the flash drive that will be used for the upgrade.
It is also recommended to copy the matching plan.csv file for the controller code being used to the root directory of
the flash drive at this time.
The root directory of a drive is described in the picture below. This is an example the drive letters and folders will
be different depending on the directory (Folder) structure on your USB flash drive.

What To Expect During The Upgrade Process

The 2_04_01.bat file will delete all of the SP text files and then launch the self extracting
20401.exe file. 34 files will be extracted including new SP text files. Only the files in the
20401.exe self extracting archive will be placed where they belong. Do not modify the default
extraction location that is called for when the extraction utility launches. These files must be
extracted to the default location specified. All alarm data and history files will not be affected by
this process. The oits.ini file will be effected.
After the upgrade process is complete it may be necessary to adjust the oits.ini file so the correct
graphics are displayed for the chiller type being used. This will covered under the Appendix of
this document.

The Upgrading Process

Connect the preferred USB Windows keyboard to one of the USB ports on the OITS

computer.

Shut down the data collecting graphical display by using the ALT and F4 keys as shown
in the picture above. This is done by holding down the ALT key and tapping the F4 key
once. If the graphic screen changes to the McQuay default view screen it will be
necessary to repeat the keystrokes again until the Windows Desktop is displayed.
Usually it requires no more than two repetitions of the keystrokes to get to the desktop.
Once the desktop is displayed insert the USB flash drive into the other USB port on the
OITS computer.

Depending on the USB flash drive used and how many different types of USB drives
may have been used in the past there could be different results once the drive is inserted.
These could be as listed below.
A screen may appear asking what to do. Select the one that allows you to view
files and folders. This will start the Windows Explorer.
The Windows Explorer screen may just appear.
No new windows open and the Desktop remains on the screen.

The next step is to enter the Windows file explorer. This can be done in a number of ways some
of which are listed below.
If after inserting the USB flash drive a window appears on the desktop asking what
action to take as described above. Choose the Open in files and folders view option.
If no window appears click on the start button, navigate to the programs tab, then
navigate to the accessories tab and choose the Windows Explorer shortcut.
Double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.

The picture to the left shows the removable disk options window.
Should this window appear on the desktop when the USB flash
drive is inserted choose the Open folders to view files using
Windows Explorer option.

Normal Default View

After choosing this option the next window that will be displayed
will be the normal Default Windows Explorer view as pictured at
the left. You will want to change to the folders view by selecting
the Folders button on the toolbar. This button is circled in red on
the picture at the left.

Folders View
The folders view as shown to the left is the desired view for
navigation to the USB flash drive. The next step will be to find the
Removable Disk drive located in the window pane on the left of
the Explorer window. It should be identified as drive letter D.
Click on drive letter D and the files will appear in the right pane
of Windows Explorer. Find the file named 2_04_.1.bat. If the
extension .bat is not visible Windows Explorer is hiding it due to
the extension being already registered with the Windows
operating system. To show the extensions click on the Tools
button on the toolbar and select the Folder Options selection.
From here find the View tab and click on that tab. You will now
see a Window Box that is labeled Advanced Settings and there will be selections in this box. Under the Files And
Folders tab find the check box that says Hide File Extensions For Known File Types and uncheck this box.
Then click on the OK button and the extensions should now be visible. For those that do not understand what an
extension is here is a brief explanation. File names are broken down to two parts. These parts are separated by a
delimiter (the period). The extension will have three characters to the right of the period and the file name will be to

the left of the period. The operating system (Windows in this case) associates these extensions with operating
programs or system functions. The .bat extension is registered directly with the operating system and when opened
(double clicked) it will activate. Activating this file will be our next step.

DOS Window with

.bat file activated
Once the 2_04_01 batch file is activated a DOS window will appear
like the picture to left. The program will stop and wait for you to
confirm the operation. The confirmation is best done by hitting the
Enter key on the keyboard.

The next step in the process will be to confirm that the self
extracting file 20401.exe should execute. This file is a self
extracting archive file and is set to extract to the C:\PLAN folder.
DO NOT change the extraction location or uncheck the
overwrite Files Without Prompting check box. The only task
that is required at this point is to click the Unzip button. The
extraction will proceed at this point and after it is finished click on
the OK button in the next Window that will appear. The upgrade
process is now complete. The next step will be to re-start to chiller
graphical interface.

Click on the Start button on the Windows Taskbar and then click on the
TPRUN button as shown at the left. This will restart the chiller graphical
interface.

Paths to Operating Manual and Parts Lists

OM= The file name and path to the OM for the OITS.
PL=
The file name and path to the reference for replacement parts
ExpValve=
EXV
Will display a graphic of the EXV on the schematic screen and also the valve
position. If the chiller is not equipped with an EXV then TXV should be the value as the
graphic and position will still be shown even though the chiller does not use a EXV.
TXV
Removes the EXV graphic and position from the schematic.
Adjustment of this file to suit the chiller that the OITS is attached to is done prior to shipment and would only need
changing should the OITS software be upgraded or a replacement control system (MictrTech200 to MII) or retrofit
OITS panel be applied to an existing chiller. Modifying this file requires that the file be opened in Windows
Notepad, the changes made and then saved. The changes do not take effect until the graphical user interface is
restarted.
