Music is one way of expressing

ones thoughts and feelings. The
beautiful lyrics, music and even the
singers rendition of a song show the
composers effort of organizing the
musical form that makes the music thick
no matter how simple, basic or
complicated the music is, it requires an
organized structural form.
In this lesson, we will discuss the
different musical forms from the simplest
to the complicated ones.
There are four forms of music and
based on your assignment, can you give
the first form of music? Yes, Jayson!

Sir, the strophic or the simplest form that

contain only one section and the same all
throughout the piece is called Strophic.

Very Good Jayson! Yes, it is the simplest

of all form. Its lyrics may change but the
music stays the same. It consists of
stanzas and is represented by letter A. In
order for you to understand, lets listen to
this sample of strophic music entitle O
Bayan ko.
*playing O Bayan ko.
Alright, how about the second form of
music, can you give it? Yes, Jolina!

Very well said Jolina. Yes, in this kind of

form, musical section is labelled as A and
B. Section A begins in tonic chord while
the section B modulates to a dominant
chord progression. Here is the sample of
Binary form, try to identify which part is
section A and which part is section B in
the song.
*playing song Inday

Sir, the second form is the Binary, a musical

composition that have two basic parts or
ideas have binary structures.

Alright. After the Binary form, can you

give the third form of music? Yes, Lois!
Sir, the third form is Ternary a musical
composition utilizes a three-part form ABA.
Excellent Lois. Contrasting and unifying
elements are observed in this
composition. The music begins with
section A, followed by section B, which is
the contrasting elements and end by
repeating section A class listen to this
sample of Ternary form.
*playing Musette
The last form of music is Rondo. This
form has a general plan which is labelled
as A-B-A-C-A. The altered section is often
called episodes or couplets. These are
usually explored in the key areas other
than section A. Try to listen to this
sample song and observe which part of
the rondo is being repeated and which
parts are the episodes.
*playing spinning song
