TutorialIECShortCircuitAnalysis

Inthistutorial,youwillbeshownhowtouseseveralofEasyPowersIECshortcircuitanalysisfeatures.

IECOption
TorunIECshortcircuitanalysis,youmustsettheIECoption.
1.FromtheFilemenu,clickOpenFile.
Tip:IfyouareviewingtheStartPage,youcanclickOpenOnelineinstead.
2.OpentheSimple.dezileinyourSamplesdirectory.
3.Click

Maximizeontheonelinewindow,ifneeded,toillthesessionwindowwiththeoneline.

4.ClickTools,click

Options,andthenclicktheSystemtab.Selectthefollowing:

Frequency:50or60Hertz.
SCCalculationMethod:SetthistoIEC.
Units:YoucanchangethistoMetric(optional).
Symbols:YoucansetthistoIEC(optional).
ClickOKtosaveyourchanges.

CalculatingFaultCurrents
DoubleclickonBUS3.Thebuscolorchangestolightblueanddisplaysfaultcurrentsinsymmetricalkiloamps.Asshownin
theigurebelow,themotorcontributes1.139kAandthecable,4.734kAtothefault.Thetotalbusfaultcurrent,shownata
fortyivedegreeangle,is5.873kA.

ChangingtheIECStandardTimeInterval
ThefollowingcurrentscanbecalculatedinEasyPower:
Initial(Momentary)current:Thisistheirstcyclecurrent.Todisplayresultsforthiscurrentclick
theShortCircuittab.

Momentaryin

Breakingcurrentsfor0.02seconds,0.05seconds,0.1secondsand>0.25seconds:Todisplaythesevalues,selectthe
correspondingbuttonsintheShortCircuittab.

Youcanviewupto3typesoffaultcurrentvaluesbytimeinterval.Youcanalsoviewfaultcurrentsinvariousforms,suchas
byphasecurrentvalues(A,B,C)ortheirsymmetricalcomponentvalues(positivesequence,negativesequenceor3times
thezerosequence).Intheigurebelow,noticethemotorcurrentcontributiondecayswiththetimeintervalsmomentary,
0.05,and>0.25selected.

UnsymmetricalFaults
Thecurrentscalculatedtothispointhavebeen3phasefaultcurrents.EasyPoweralsocalculatesunsymmetricalfaults.
Accordingtoconvention,singlelinetogroundfaultcalculationsassumetheAphaseisfaulted.Fordoublelinetoground
andlinetolinefaults,theconventionistofaultphasesBandC.

SingleLinetoGroundFaults
1.Click
LinetoGround.Thegreendotrepresentsgroundfault.Whenthisbuttonisselected,allsubsequentfaults
willbesinglelinetogroundfaults.
2.Click
Momentary.Thecurrentswillshowzero(seeigurebelow).Thisisbecausethetransformer(deltadelta
connectiontype)andmotorarenotgrounded.Bydefault,EasyPowerdisplaysAphasecurrents.
