MISSIONARIES
REV. LUIZ AUGUSTO CORREA BUENO
RACHEL TRANCOSO BUENO

1. Introduction
The Portuguese Bible Institute (IBP - Instituto Biblico
Portugus) in partnership with the Presbyterian Crosscultural Mission Agency (APMT / IPB - Agencia Presbiteriana
de Misses Transculturais) challenged us to serve as one
of his missionary teachers.
Hence, we would like to invite you to know the Lusophone
Missionary Project, praying for us and becoming partners,
together fulfilling this calling.
2) Calling
The church is called to establish the Kingdom of Christ on
earth through its mission. We call "mission" the proposal of
the Gospel remake the full humanity of Christ in every
person where the consequences guide not only spiritual,
but also social, political and economical. This call is given to
all and for all, without distinction. In addition, the church
proclaims and lives the gospel, trains men and women,
ministers, missionaries to comply with the Call of Christ,
making disciples of all people.
3) Location and Project Purpose
Portugal is the strategic country due to its location to the
accomplishment of this project becoming an 'axis' for
actions in Portuguese speaking countries like Angola,
Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, So Tome and
Principe and East Timor.
We will be located specifically at the Portuguese Bible
Institute (IBP - Instituto Biblico Portugus) in Santo Antao
do Tojal, Parish of Lourdes, in the outskirts of Lisbon. There,
we will be involved in the preparation of leaders, pastors,
missionaries in theological and mission education not only
Undergraduate level, but also in Graduate level through the
Master of Applied Biblical Interpretation (MIBA). We will give
support in the planting and revitalization of Reformed and
Presbyterian churches in Portugal.
In addition, we will assist the churches to develop the
mission vision, not only with regard to receive mission as

well as to promote missionary work in other countries. The

training of Portuguese Christians is of vital importance to
the mission work inside and outside Europe.
4) Culture and Religion
In Portugal, the majority of the population is Christian,
divided into 80% of Roman Catholics and 20% of the
remaining are diluted among Jehovah Witnesses , Jewish,
Islamic, Hindu, Orthodox, Buddhist, Gnostic and
Spiritualists.
In the midst of this religious pluralism, the Portuguese Bible
Institute
(IBP - Instituto Biblico Portugus) has been
an "arm" of the mission.
The IBP is a theological
seminary, non-profit organization, interdenominational,
evangelical and Reformed base, duly legalized and it is
called Evangelical Education Association (AEE Associao
Evanglica de Educao). Over the years, several teachers
from other countries jointly with national teachers have
taught the Word of God, sharing with zeal the ideals of the
Christian faith. All the teachers are missionaries supported
by their home countries.
5) Project Mission

leaders to spread God's word in cross-cultural fields in and
out of Portugal, as well as work in planting and revitalization
of Presbyterian local churches.
