Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. define Chemistry and matter; and
b. enumerate the five phases of matter.

2. Prayer
Let us pray
3. Checking of attendance
Say present as I call your name.
4. Classroom management
Please pick up the pieces of paper
under your chair
B. Motivation/Review
Look at the illustration on the board, what
can you say?
C. Lesson Proper
What do you think is our lesson all about?
First, what is Chemistry?
What is matter?
Ok... so, what is the basic unit of matter?
And how many phases does the matter
have?
No, it has five phases, what are those?
D. Generalization
What is the main difference in the five
phases of matter?
IV.
Evaluation
Get sheet of paper. Answer the following:
1-5 What are the five phases of matter?
Solid, liquid, gas, plasma, Bose Einstein Condensates
6. It is the study of composition, structures and changes in matter.
Chemistry
7. It is the basic unit of matter. Atom
8. What phase is this, it has a compact particles? Solid
9-10 Give two example of plasma. Stars, lightning
V.
Assignment
Research for Bose Einstein Condensates. Bring your own Periodic table.
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. define and give example of Bose Einstein Condesates; and
b. define periodic table of elements and its parts.

C. Lesson Proper
What is Bose Einstein Condensates?
A BoseEinstein condensate (BEC)
is a state of matter of a dilute gas of
bosons cooled to temperatures very
close to absolute zero.
Another?
A Bose-Einstein condensate is a
group of atoms cooled to within a hair
of absolute zero.
When they reach that temperature
the atoms are hardly moving relative
to each other; they have almost no
free energy to do so.
What are the examples of Bose Einstein
condensates?
Groups
G13, P2
G4, P4
G11, P5
Ok maam!
D. Generalization
What can you say about the periodic table?
Periodic table are arranged
according to their atomic number and
atomic structures.
IV.
Evaluation
Group yourselves with six members each. Form six words from the periodic
table. Write your members in sheet of paper together with your answers.
Example: CAN= Ca
N
G2, P4 G5, P2
V.
Assignment
Bring one whole sheet of paper for your activity tomorrow.
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. describe common properties of matter; and
b. distinguish properties of matter from those of non-matter.
II.

Assignment:
Bring one whole sheet of paper for your activity 2
VI.
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. infer from the given situations or observable events what matter is
made of; and
b. explain how these observed situations give evidence that matter is
made up of tiny particles.
VII.
Subject Matter
A. Topic: Activity 2: What is matter made of?
