Installation Environment
The OceanStor virtual intelligent storage 6000 series virtual intelligent storage system (hereinafter
referred to as the VIS6000 ) includes two products: VIS6300 and VIS6600. The VIS6600 is superior to the
VIS6300 in hardware configuration and has more powerful capability of processing services. Unless
otherwise specified, this document takes the VIS6000 with the AC power as an example.
This document takes the VIS6000 that is installed to the N610E-22 cabinet as an example.
This document is based on the prerequisite that the N610E-22 cabinet is well installed and grounded.
Reserve the space of at least 100 cm between the cabinet and the wall and 120 cm between the cabinets
for the convenience of maintenance, ventilation, and heat dissipation.
Before installing the device into the cabinet, ensure that air in the cabinet exchanges with air in the
machine room. It is suggested to reserve the space of 1 U above the device and below the device.

N610E-22 Cabinet

Before installation, check whether the external environmental conditions, such as power supply and heat
dissipation, satisfy the requirements for normal running of the VIS6000.
Rated voltage: 220 V(AC); -48 V(DC)
Maximum AC input power: 900 W
Operating temperature: 5C to 40C (altitude: < 1800 m)
5C to 35C (altitude: 1800 m to 3000 m)
Operating altitude: 3000 m
Relative humidity: 5% RH to 85% RH

Material List
The N610E-22 cabinet is equipped with a captive nut mount bar.
The material list includes grounding cables and power cables.

4 VIS6000
The VIS6000 supports Gigabit Ethernet (GE) port modules and Fiber Channel (FC) port modules.
With full configuration, the VIS6000 can be configured with six port modules:
Two FC port modules + four GE port modules
Four FC port modules + two GE port modules
Six GE port modules
The VIS6000 provides ten interface cards with five on each side. The interface cards are numbered. The
numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 from top to bottom. The interface cards that are numbered 0, 1, and 2 are
used for carrying port modules. The interface cards that are numbered 3 and 4 are used for carrying
system disks.
The FC port module and GE port module can be installed in the slots of the interface card without
restriction. The FC port module or the GE port module can be installed in slot 0,1, or 2.
According to the actual application environment choose the types and numbers of port modules. If the
interface card does not carry port modules, use a filler panel to hide the interface card. The controller A
and B must carry port modules in the same mode. The sequence of port modules on each side in the
VIS6000 must be consistent. In this way, the 1+1 redundant backup can be achieved.

Place the guide rail to be installed in the corresponding position, see step in the figure. Ensure that the
direction of the adjustable guide rail is right. Align the positioning pins of the guide rail with the mounting
holes of the slide rail on the inner side of the cabinet, see step . Fix the adjustable guide rail on the slide
rail of the cabinet with screws. On the front side of the slide rail, the screw is installed in the third hole of
the adjustable guide rail. On the rear side of the slide rail, the screws are installed in the second and forth
holes of the adjustable guide rail, see step . Install another adjustable guide rail on the other side of the
cabinet with the same method.

The N610E-22 cabinet is installed with grounding cables. You can remove
the grounding cables and then install the grounding cables in the material list
of the VIS6000 to the cabinet.
Before connecting the grounding cable to the cabinet grounding end, check
whether the cabinet grounding end is covered by insulation paint. If the
cabinet grounding end is covered by insulation paint, scrape the paint off,
and then connect the grounding cable to the cabinet grounding end. If the
grounding end is not covered by insulation paint, connect the grounding
cable directly to the cabinet grounding end. After connecting the grounding
cable to the cabinet, use a multimeter to check whether the device is
grounded correctly. If the device is grounded correctly, execute the
operations in the following sections.

Application Server to the VIS6000
1 Confirming Connection Modes
The networking modes in the production center or the disaster recovery center can both use the FC
switch and the Ethernet switch. Please choose the networking mode according to the actual environment.
This section takes the networking mode that uses only the FC switch or the Ethernet switch in the
production center or the disaster recovery center as an example.
You can the choose FC network (within 60 KM) or Ethernet to connect the production center to the
disaster recovery center. Please choose the networking mode according to the actual environment. The
following figures take the Ethernet on which the production center and the disaster recovery center are
connected as an example.

connection of port modules on the right, see the following installation procedure to perform similar
operations.
The signal cables are wired on the right of the rear of the cabinet (you can lead signal cables connected
to the left port modules to the right of the cabinet by using the cable tray). When cabinets are connected,
wire the connecting cables inside the cabinet support bridges.
For the FC service ports to which FC cables are not connected, use protective caps.

Connecting the VIS6000 to the

Maintenance Terminal
Management network ports are not initially configured with IP addresses. You can manage the VIS6000
through management network ports only when you assign IP addresses to management network ports by
configuring the configuration network port or the system debugging serial port in the command line
interface (CLI).

The IP addresses of GE service ports, management network ports, configuration ports, and heartbeat
network ports of controllers cannot be configured in the same network segment.
The IP addresses of the heartbeat ports on controllers are in the 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24
network segments and cannot be modified.
The IP addresses of the configuration ports are in the 192.168.3.0/24 and cannot be modified.

If the maintenance terminal is connected to the configuration network port of the VIS6000, it cannot
provide a network port to connect the management network port. In this case, perform this operation after
setting the IP addresses of the management network ports of controller A and controller B and
disconnecting the configuration network port of the VIS6000 from the maintenance terminal.

3 Connecting the Maintenance Terminal to the

Switch
This process is optional. If the management network adopts the directly connection networking, skip this
section.

Connecting Power Cable (AC Power )

Before connecting the power cables, ensure that all power switches are closed.

Please use the AC power cables in the material list of the VIS6000.
All power cables are wired on the left of the rear of the cabinet (when the power socket is on the right,
lead the power cable that is plugged into the right socket to the left of the cabinet by using the wiring slot).

3 Setting the IP Addresses for the Management

Network Ports
After powering on devices, run the super terminal software and log in to the command line interface (CLI)
of the VIS6000 by using the administrator account to set the IP addresses for the management network
ports of controller A and controller B. For details about setting the IP address, see the OceanStor
VIS6000 Series Virtual Intelligent Storage System Initial Configuration Guide.

4 Removing the Cable

After setting the IP address of the management network port of controller A and controller B respectively,
log out of the CLI of the VIS6000, and remove the network cable or the serial port cable (convert RJ-45 to
DB-9 ) that connects the configuration port or system debugging serial port to the maintenance terminal.

37

5 Installing the Baffle to the Front of the VIS6000

When you unpack the unpacking of devices, the front baffle of the VIS6000 is not installed. After setting
the IP address of controller A and controller B and removing the cable, you can install the baffle to the
front of the VIS6000 by using the buckles on the baffle.
The baffle has four spring leaves that correspond to four fixed bolts in the system subrack. You can fix the
baffle to the system subrack by combing spring leaves and fixed bolts.
