Specific topic vs. General Area

The title of this presentation, The Role of Infrastructure in the Landscape
was very general compared to the points discussed by the students, where
they dug deeper into the information and went into specific topics such as
Landscape and Infrastructure in the Late Modern Metropolis, Infrastructure
in Cities and Urban Highways.
Group members showed well preparation of the materials discussed for they
were able to transport the information in a clear way to the audience. At the
end of their presentation, they defended their ideas by discussing one main
case study which was: Waste Management
as Landscape Infrastructure.

Methodology
Group members succeeded in delivering a clear and efficient presentation
through the methodology they used. First, although they had a general title
rather than a specific one, they were still able to define the topic they
presented successfully with all the detailed areas they also focused on. Then,
to support all the information they presented, they showed case studies
which let them go deeper in the explanation of the topics and made it easier
for the listener to understand the small details. At the end of the
presentation, the way they concluded all the presented ideas through the
use of one case study was a smart and interesting way to make sure the
audience understands all presented data as well as the flow of ideas.

Approach
The presenters showed well understanding of the materials discussed
throughout the whole presentation. It was very organized and presented with
catchy graphics and visual diagrams as well as examples that served their
points tackled. One idea, however, that was discussed in a previous
presentation was the presence of a couple of diagrams/photos that were of
low quality. This reduces the visual effect such media stimulate to the
audience. As for the rest, they were pretty informative and supported what
the presenters were explaining. To add on that, the fact that each student
wrapped up by the end of their parts, had a great influence on emphasizing
their points to the audience.

Link to Landscape Architecture

The presentation discusses the role of infrastructure in the landscape and
more precisely in the urban context where transportation and
communication systems, water and power lines and other utilities and
structures represent the central concept. Landscape architecture based on
principles of infrastructure brings together natural and built environment
through building natural and public amenities into the infrastructure of the
city, which is one of the main goals of landscape architecture. Additionally,
group members talked about infrastructure in urban highways, which brings
back some of the important notions of landscape architecture such as
restoration of native habitat, re-vegetation, and storm water management,
through the use of highway corridors. As landscape architects are considered
experts in studying environmental, social and cultural aspects of design, and
in predicting the needs to revive a public space, they can play a major role in
redefining infrastructure and reviving the natural systems that are now at
great risk.
