QUEER CHEER!
Queer? Okay lets go to Los Angeles but wait are you sure? By: Nydia Holguin

Being Queer in LA
Being part of the community in
Los Angeles has defiantly
changed over the years. How?
Well there are anywhere from
parades to help groups to help
those that are apart of the
community get help or even get a
significant other along the way of
having fun and well of curse
being accepted as who they are.
In the city of Los Angeles the
past has brought upon to the
Angelenos capability to become a
part of something new as
famously quoted in High School
Musical.

Gay Los Angeles and

West Hollywood!
Los Angeles has become
welcoming to the many
members that live in the city
with arms wide open for a
huge hug.
The community has painted
the city of Los in all different
colors not just because of the
community but because of
how open minded people are.

Where are the hotspots?

In West

Hollywood and in many other places in Los Angeles

there have been may places for the community to meet many that
share common interest as well as alliances just wanting to have a
good time and here are some of those places:
Precinct is a Gay Lesbian and Bisexual Rock and Roll bar
located in Downtown LA on 357 S. Broadway

Hamburger Marys West Hollywood is a colorful chain

that is more than just a place to get burgers with a great
welcoming to anyone that comes and even awesome deals like
Taco Tuesday and Bingo Wednesday.
Out of the Closet located in 8224Santa Monica Blvd as well as
360 N. Fairfax Ave that is a thrift store with proceeds that all got
to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Los Angeles LGBT Center is located in Hollywood 1625 N

Schrader Blvd that acts as a safe haven and a hangout spot to
anyone who wants to go and check it out.

Benefits??

All you can do is

help!

Well overall the benefits of knowing where the community

is really welcomed and even courage to those that may have
trouble being themselves because of discriminatory acts is
very up lifting. Many people fear coming out of the closet so
they disguise every part of their being to hide behind the
unrealistic expectation or being normal. The word normal
has and is used to identify who is in and out of what the
norm is in a specific society. The LGTBQ are seen as weird
and are denied the fair share of what each individual ha stop oer.
Why?

All anyone can do whether

or not you know someone
who is part of the
community is help.
Be there for some one in

need of a shoulder to cry

on or an open mind to
receive thoughtful
advice.

Be the voice that they

may need to encourage

them to be happy and be
themselves.

Try new things! Be aware

of what your
surroundings. Get
familiar with Diversity!!

There are still people that have trouble understanding how people
are built. Meaning there are always going to be people that wont
allow themselves to understand that people come in all shapes sizes
and yes even sexuality. If we start showing people that it is ok to be
dierent and it is ohm to explore that you are not tied down to one
thing because society requires you to fit in. PEOPLE ARE
DIFFERENT THE ONLY THING THAT WE ALL HAVE IN
COMMON IS THAT WE ARE HUMAN !
