Fa la la la la, its time to learn Christmas songs

Taking over the pitch pipe from

now retired music teacher Mary
Law, Mark Twain fifth grade teacher
Christina Bourne is now in charge of
the coordination with other music
teachers to prepare the beloved annual
program.

When asked if the kids enjoy singing

on the capitol steps, she enthuses,
This is a very exciting event for the
children. Its also exciting for the
families and the citizens who come
out to enjoy the annual festive kick-off
for the holiday season. In 2015, it is
estimated over 3,000 listened to the
sweet sounds of the well-rehearsed
fifth graders.

A Carson City native and graduate of

Carson High, Bourne obtained her BA
and Masters degrees from UNR and
has been teaching for 15 years, 13 of
which have been in the Carson City
School District.

The music teachers truly enjoy

bringing our groups together for city
wide events, and it is an honor to have
our students selected to take part in
this wonderful way to celebrate the
holidays, adds Bourne.

While the fifth graders are the stars of

the show, the post show presented on
the McFadden Plaza Stage (formerly

Third Street) will equally set the

mood for the season and shouldnt be
missed.
