air resistance , it incor por ates exter ior design features that add
even more char acter to its unmistakable style .
The new front feature s a new centr al gr ille , redesigned side
fender s, optimised bumper design and light cluster s equipped
with LED daytime Running Lights and Xenon headlights. The
NEW STRALIS also features a lar ge space in the most visible
area immediately below the windscreen, so that you can inser t
your company name .
The lines of the NEW STRALIS cab have been designed to
achieve an excellent dra g coef ficient one of the factor s
with the highest impact on ener gy-efficiency (at 85 km/h, 40% of
a vehicles fuel consumption goes on overcoming air resistance).
By improving the Cd by 3%, weve reduced noise levels in
the cab, and allowed significant fuel savings on long-haul jobs.
And for vehicles used mostly on motorways, the specific
aerodyna mic kit, compr ising adjustable roof spoiler and
robust side deflector s, deliver s a fur ther reduction in aver age
fuel consumption.

The inter ior s have been completely redesigned. The ne w

dashboa rd is ergonomic a nd f unctional, made with
the utmost attention to detail, using non-reflective , softtouch mater ials (with the same surface finishes as in the best
quality car s). The controls have been repositioned around
the dashboard and centr al area, so as to be easily visible and
accessible without the dr iver having to r aise his or her back from
the seat, ensur ing maximum safety. Ever y feature of the NEW
STRALIS is designed to improve the quality of life on board:
the new steer ing whee l has integr ated telephone controls, the
steer ing wheel has a pneumatic adjustment system and the new
heated and ventilated seat has a height-adjustable , integr ated
seat-belt. The sound insulation in the cab, already amongst the
most efficient on the mar ket, has been fur ther improved to
reduce inter nal noise .

In the sleeping area there is a new HI-COMFORT bed, lower

bunk, 80 cm wide and over 2 m long, with wooden slats, a supercomfor table mattress and a reclina ble backrest, ideal for
shor t stops. As an alter native , theres a 3-piece bunk that folds
in the centre and tur ns into a handy table . The top bunk is
easy to open thanks to the air-spr ung opening system, and folds
away completely into the back wall making the cab even more
spacious.

The use of space in the NEW STRALIS cab is extremely well

org a nised. The dra wers a nd stora ge compa rtments for
documents, bottles, maps and tools have been increased in both
number and size . Now there are more than 30 of them - more
than any of the competitor s. The total capacity is 30 litres
more than the previous model. The cab also has two spacious
illuminated stora ge compa rtments, accessible from both
outside and inside . Another two exter nal stor age compar tments
are available for stowing tools and wor k clothing. The fr idge
features a handy bottle r ack and, for the longest missions, a
maxi-fridge can be installed with a capacity of over 50 litres.

The wor king environments have been tailored to the kind
of vehicle mission and the needs of the dr iver. The completely

H I - efficiency
The NEW STRALIS uses Cur sor FPT INDUSTRIAL engines
with in-line 6 cylinder architecture , in three displacement
var iants (8, 10 and 13 litres) and 5 power var iants (from 350 to
500 HP). These engines combine low f uel consumption with
excellent performa nce and deliver maximum torque at
ver y low engine speeds (star ting from 1,000 r pm for the Cur sor
13). The flexibility resulting from the reduced number of gear
changes tr anslates into higher ef ficiency a nd lower f uel
consumption. Fuel tanks with capacities of up to 1,400 litres
(only 4X2) guar antee to the NEW STRALIS an exceptionally long
r ange . All engines are equipped with a decompression engine
br ake , which ensures additional safety and helps reduce br aking
system wear and maintenance costs.

The NEW STRALIS engines can be combined with manual or
automated gearboxes 16 speed:
+ Manual gearboxes with ser vo-shift system provide fast and
precise gear shift
+ Automated ZF eurotronic gearboxes with electronic clutch
control provides comfor t and economic saving.
The automatic gear section logic:
+ Chooses the ideal gear
+ Protects the engine from over revving
+ Reduced clutch wear
On request both manual and automated gearboxes can be fitted
with an hydrodynamic retarder (ZF intarder) which improves
br aking efficiency and reduces wear on br ake pads.

The wide r ange of available axle drive ratios (from 2.64

to 5.29) makes it possible to choose the best solution for the
type of tr anspor t: longer r atios for motorway tr avel and shor ter
r atios for more demanding missions where greater tr action is
required (such as on mountain roads).
The sta nda rd rea r axles are single reduction type , with
differential locks and maximum per missible load of up to 13
tonnes. To complete the r ange , there are vehicles with three
fixed or 6x2 on vehicles, the third axle can be fixed or liftable
type with single or twin wheels.
The front axle allows a steer ing angle of 52, a great advantage
in urban distr ibution wor k.
The fra mes on the NEW STRALIS are manufactured with rolled
steel double-bottleneck side member s, with C-section.
The fr ame thickness is 6.7 mm for road tr avel, increased to
7.7 mm for arduous dr iving conditions. To facilitate vehicle
configur ability, the upper surface of the fr ame is flat and
obstacle-free , and a wide r ange of wheelbases and configur able
body lengths are available .
The NEW STRALIS is adaptable to all kinds of use thanks to its
wide r ange of available mecha nical a nd a ir suspension
systems. Rear air suspension systems are available for the
entire r ange , with 4 ai r spr ings and EC AS automatic position
control (Electronically-Controlled Air Suspension). EC AS makes
it possible to:
+ keep the height of the fr ame constant while dr iving
+ r aise and lower the fr ame quickly for loading and unloading

+ memor ise the different levels to speed up the height

adjustment manoeuvres.
To tr anspor t high volumes and swap bodies are provided specific
air suspensions.
In order to improve the long-ter m protection of metal surfaces,
the thickness of the cataphoresis of the cab has been increased
by 30%.

The dr iver of the NEW STRALIS model can count on a reliable ,
efficient br aking system. The entire r ange (except for hub
reduction rear axle models) is fitted with disc br akes and the
EBS system now includes a Br ake Assistant function.
The adva nced sa fety systems are essential for protecting
the dr iver, the vehicle and the load. The NEW STRALIS ensures
safe dr iving and makes wor k more relaxing and productive .
