Sat, July 1 Depart from USA Meeting at New York, JFK Airport for
departure to Palermo connecting in Rome.

Sun, July 2 Palermo After your morning arrival into Palermos


Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Balance of the
day is at leisure. Orientation walking tour before dinner to explore the
hotel neighborhood with your local assistant/tour escort. Tonight
enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (D)
Mon, July 3 Palermo/Cefalu This morning enjoy a tour of Palermo

featuring the Massimo Theater, Quattro Canti -a splendid example of


Baroque architecture - the Palace of the Normans, and the Cathedral
housing the shrine of Santa Rosalia locally revered as La Santuzza,
the patron saint of Palermo. The last stop will be the Abbey of
Monreale, an Arab-Norman Cathedral built in the 12th century
famous for its magnificent Byzantine mosaics and the adjacent
Benedictine cloister. Travel to Cefalu, a picturesque fishing village
outside of Palermo. Lunch in local restaurant and time at disposal to
visit the city center. Return to Palermo in the late afternoon and have
the rest of the day at leisure overnight in Palermo. (B,L)

Tue, July 4 Erice/Marsala (Saline) This morning we take a


breathtaking scenic drive up to the medieval town of Erice. After the
Iron Age Elymians people settled here over 3,000 years ago, it
became an important religious site associated with the goddess
Venus. Wander through its ancient streets, each cobbled with
rectangular stones, and take some time to stop by one of the famous
homemade pastry shops selling delicacies such as marzipan candies
and pistachio pastries. After enjoying an olive oil tasting session and

lunch accompanied by Marsala wine at a local farmhouse, we will


travel along a coastline mostly made up of salt pans built back in
Roman times. Overnight in Palermo. (B,L)

Wed, July 5 Palermo/Agrigento/Taormina This morning enjoy a

guided tour of "The Valley of the Temples", a UNESCO World Heritage


Site. One of the main archaeological treasures of the Mediterranean,
this incomparable, timeless site still stands today immersed in a rural
landscape of rare beauty characterized by the presence of centuryold olive and almond trees. Your guided walking tour will cover about
one mile in a mostly downhill direction, with stops along the Via
Sacra (the Sacred Way) to admire the Temple of Concordia, the
Temple of Herakles and ruins of the Temple of Zeus. Afternoon travel
to Taormina. Dinner in hotel. Overnight in Taormina. (B,D)

Thu, July 6 Taormina This morning enjoy a walking tour of

Taorminas charming city center including the Greek/Roman


amphitheater with breathtaking views looking over the bay of Naxos.
Afternoon is at leisure. Dinner in local restaurant overlooking the bay.

Fri, July 7 Taormina/Noto/Ortigia (Syracuse)/Taormina Today

we will start our journey to Noto, a jewel among the "Late Baroque
Towns of the Val di Noto", and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Continue to the enchanting island of Ortigia, the old town center of
Syracuse. Highlights of Ortigia are the cathedral square with its
church built over an ancient Greek temple and the beautiful
promenade with its panorama over the sea and the natural bay of the
town. Dinner in a local restaurant in Taormina. (B,D)

Sat, July 8 Taormina/Etna After breakfast drive up the Etna South


road through a continuously changing landscape of trees, lava flows
and endemic plants. Passing through the charming little villages of
Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea, reach Rifugio Sapienza at a

height of 2000 meters. Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in


Europe. Upon arrival, visit the area of Crateri Silvestri (about 6.000
ft.) and see the effects of recent eruptions. Enjoy wine tasting at local
winery followed by lunch with typical product from this land. In the
afternoon return to hotel. (B,L)

Sun, July 9 Taormina/Messina/Reggio Calabria/Villa San


Giovanni Departure from Taormina, stop in Messina for a visit to the

Duomo, cross the Straits of Messina via Ferry. In Reggio Calabria


enjoy a guided tour of Archeological Museum and Bronzi di Riace.
Free time for lunch. In the afternoon you will take the scenic route to
Scilla, than have a late afternoon check in at your hotel in Villa San
Giovanni. Dinner in local restaurant. (B,D)

Mon, July 10 Tropea/Pizzo Calabro Morning tour of Tropea,

highlighting the Cathedral and panoramic belvedere overlooking the


Tyrrenean Sea. In the afternoon visit Pizzo Calabro including the
castle famous for the execution of Giacchino Murat, Napoleons
brother-in-law and once the King of Naples. Pizzo is the capital of
Truffle gelato that you must taste. Farewell Dinner with local
entertainment at the Hotel. (B,D)

Tue, July 11 Villa San Giovanni to USA Meet your driver at the
Hotel and transfer to the Lamezia Airport in time for reserved flight.
