ABCON MARINE-STERN TUBE PASTE

Type 2
For leaking stern tube systems
STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 is produced specifically for the following use:
To stop sudden leakages on stern tube seals and other similar systems.
To stop leakages from controllable pitch propeller systems where there is a
suspicion that the O-rings etc. are worn / damaged.
STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 is a teflon-bentonit based paste, with a special additive
which revitalises older harden rubber. STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 has amongst
others the following properties:
Produces a teflon barrier at the leaking seals
Environmentally friendly reduces leakage of stern tube oil
Protects against pollution of seawater
Extremely protecting against wears of the bearings and the seals
Protecting against corrosion
Revitalises older rubber
Resists pressure up to 1400 kg/cm2
In connection with leakages, and due to the much higher specific gravity than the oil,
the use of STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 results in the paste seeks towards the lower
point i.e. the stern tube seals, and there it blends with the existing stern tube oil. The
high content of teflon produces a kind of teflon seal. The effect is that the leakage is
reduced or stops. In case of water in the lube oil the stern tube paste will provide a
substantial safety margin as teflon maintains its lubricating properties even in water.
STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 can be blended with all types of mineral lubrication oil. It
can be used together with all types of stern tube seal materials.
Note: When dry-docking it is advisable to use ABCON MARINE-STERN TUBE PASTE
Type 1 as start up lubrication. Past experience has shown that STERN TUBE PASTE
Type 1 used preventively reduces the running consumption of stern tube lube oil.
Warning: STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 must not be blended with vegetarian oils. In
systems with fine filters it is advisable to change to 40 micron filters or more. Please
consult with your equipment supplier.
Direction for use: In case of a leakage STERN TUBE PASTE Type 2 is added to the
existing stern tube oil as close as possible to the leaking gasket. The recommended
blending ratio is 10% of existing volume of stern tube oil.
