Lesson Plan- Items to include/Consider

Not every lesson plan looks alike, but all lesson plans share certain basic parts. This lesson plan
template explains what we are looking for in a lesson plan and how you can make your lesson plan
as usable as possible to other teachers on the web.
Title, Grade, Subject Area, and Time Required- REQUIRED
Cause and effect of The Great Depression.
Time for this lesson plan would be three consecutive days, 40 minutes each.
Introduction/Overview-REQUIRED
Students will learn, understand, and analyze the causes and consequences of the great depression. I
will use videos to help grasp information and technologies like computers and ipads to help with
analyzing and creation during certain activities. Activities include; compare and contrast before and
after the Great Depression with computer software. Creating timelines throughout 1929-1942 on
apps within the IPAD.
Learning outcomes-REQUIRED
Students will understand how economies can collapse and what preventions can be taken to alter
failing economies (using U.S. as an example). Students will also understand regulations and
government intervention before and after the Great Depression. Students will learn basic banking and
prevention.
Curriculum alignment-REQUIRED
H2.[9-12].9 Describe the causes and consequences of the Great Depression.
Materials needed-REQUIRED
Will need:
1-powerpoint, in files under history 9, under great depression. Also in that file will be the video, video
notes, and activities packet.
2- ipad, all in the #4 cabinet. Use software called timeline, which is on every tablet.
3-compare and contrast activity available on laptops, web based, called compareson.com
Other materials, pen paper, pencils, all in cabinet #3.
Technology resources-REQUIRED
Computers and web based resources(compareson.com)
Tablets using software to create timelines, called timelines.
Students can work in pairs or individual, sharing computers and tablets or being independent.
Power point, and video all on the elmo.
Websites and APPS- REQUIRED
Quizlets flashcards and learning is a wonderful app that helps with remembering and creating. I will
use it to help students remember information and create their own cards to help each other. This will
engage students.
Google Earth is used to do virtual tours of any location in the world. This app also includes historical
trails, houses, areas, and many more. I will use this app to give students the visual effects and living
conditions of important worksites that helped U.S. get out of great depression.
Pre-activities-REQUIRED
Discussion dialoged between students about what we already know.
Activities-REQUIRED
Step one- class discussion about basics of Great Depression for 10 minutes in the beginning of class
Step two- (day 1) PowerPoint discussion of stock markets crashing and a video relating to the lesson.
(Day 2) lecture with notes about F.D.R. and the New Deal, with a video relating to lecture. (Day 3)
assignment for timelines, and compare and contrast, will take home to finish for the next week.
Assessment- REQUIRED
I will use the timelines and compare and contrast assignments to understand the level of knowledge
for each individual student. Also the daily discussions will help me understand the level of information
as a whole (the class being one)

6. Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act- legislation passed in 1930 that established very high tariffs. Its
objective was to reduce imports and stimulate the domestic economy, but it resulted only in
retaliatory tariffs by other nations
7. AAA- Agricultural Adjustment Administration: attempted to regulate agricultural production
through farm subsidies; ruled unconstitutional in 1936; disbanded after World War II
8. NIRA- National Industrial recovery act
9. PWA-Public Works Administration
10. SEC-Securities and Exchange Commission
11. WPA-Works Progress Administration
12. Social security-social welfare programs in the U.S.
